Specialized S-Works "red" vs. "gloss neon red": What's the difference? Photos?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized S-Works "red" vs. "gloss neon red": What's the difference? Photos?

Specialized sells S-Works Tarmacs in "red" and in "gloss neon red." What's the difference between these two colors? The Specialized website doesn't really show much. (And, no, my dealer doesn't have the two in stock.) Does anyone have good, color-true photos of one or both?

And, for the BF faithful who believe red bikes are faster . . . which of these two reds would be faster than the other?

Thanks in advance.

It is really hard to show a "neon" color on the web because of the limitations of most monitors and image capture devices. I have "neon" blue lines on my bike, but it looks kind of cyan/turquoise in pics. If you look at the neon red on Specialized's website, it looks really dull and flat. In real life, its looks freaking amazing, very bright if your into that kind of thing...

So, hate to say it.. but you really need to see it in person to really appreciate it..

I had a feeling somebody was going to say that. On one website, I've seen photos of a "gloss neon red" bike -- and the red doesn't look like the same color in any two of the photos. One even looks bright orange (but I'm guessing that's the farthest from the true color). Actually, bright orange, I would have a hard time staying away from -- but that's just me.

"red" is matte finish and "neon red" is gloss. If your dealer doesn't know that, I would shop somewhere else.

neon red is almost an orange color, the red is a deep red color. has nothing to do with shiny or non shiny.

I looked at a Tarmac that was white with neon red lines and I can tell you than in person it comes off as more of a bright orange. There was an entry level Tarmac (elite model, I believe) in red that I looked at and it was much more of a "STOP" sign red. The neon red is definately flashy...nice, but flashy.

Other than the matte vs. gloss post, all the posts seem consistent with what I've seen. The "bright neon red" on Specialized's website looks more like the regular "red." "Red" is the traditional "team" Specialized red color. "Bright neon red", by what you're saying and what I'm seeing on professional photographer websites, looks as if it has a dollop of orange mixed in. Thanks for the input, everyone!

Now to get my old frameset sold!

I've seen the neon red on a Venge. It's basically a pinkish-red-orange. Very bright. Not sure how I feel about it, but it's definitely eye catching.
