please help me choose a bike from craigslist

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

which bike would you guys go with? the first one seems to be an old specialized allez. not too sure of the specs.
the second one is a giant cadex 980c carbon fiber.
the specialized allez is actually priced at 350$ and the giant cadex is priced at 300$.
please help me decide.

id check out the allez first, see if you like how it rides. if everything is working and its in good condition, pull the trigger. but it does seem overpriced.

cant say anything on the giant

Neither really.

Old carbon fiber I would stay away from. Everything I've read on here is that buying a used CF frame is a huge risk, especially the older ones. The Allez is overpriced. Truthfully from doing a lot of reading on these forums, unless there is something special about the bikes, most of the vintage bikes should be priced around $175-225.

If you can wrench at all, I'd go with either

http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...ington2_IX.htm for $350, or, personally, I'd go with http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...ington3_IX.htm if you are on a serious budget ($400).

The STI shifters are well worth it.
