Pedal selection help
When I bought my f80 bike back in '03, they tossed in a pair of SPD pedals. At that time I had no idea about the different kinds of pedals. The downside to these is I basically can't walk in my shoes and the pedals are to small to ride without shoes. I ride about 100-200 miles a year tops so I don't need anything special. I would like to have something I can walk in when I get off that won't destroy the floor but is comfortable enough to ride 1-2 miles without cleats.
Any suggestions? My brother bought me a pair of A530 pedals but they are the SPD pedal and I was wondering in there is a better option. I'm not looking to spend a bunch more. Thanks |
100-200mi a year? A530 sounds like the perfect pedal if you absolutely don't wanna just use regular platform pedals with sneakers. If you can't walk in your shoes, you've just gotta get different shoes. I walk around just fine in my MTB shoes with SPD cleats.
Shimano has a line of mountain biking shoes they call "multi-use" and you could play basketball in them if you really had to, all while having an SPD cleat attached to the bottom. Walking on a wood floor would be fine too. Here's an example: http://bike.shimano.com/publish/cont...mtb/4/SH-MT33L |
100-200 miles a year? put on some flat pedals and ride in your tennis shoes.

With that kind of mileage, get regular platform pedals so you can use regular shoes and be done with it. Sell the A530 and enjoy pedaling in regular shoes and have no worries :thumb:

Despite is being a major violation of HTFU, I'll stick to my cycling shoes for distances everyone here would laugh at.:)
I wish I had just gone with MTB shoes to start and that was an option I considered. Flats for a long ride isn't a viable option for me due to some foot issues that leave me with intense pain. Guess I'll just stick with the a530s. Really MTB shoes will be the option I would actually want. Thanks for replies |
