Converting Mavic ES Ksyrium Wheelset to Tubeless

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Converting Mavic ES Ksyrium Wheelset to Tubeless

I am thinking about converting my 2007 Mavic Ksyrium ES wheelset to Tubeless via Stan's No Tubes road conversion kit.

Anybody done anything similar? If so, impressions and caveats?

Thanks.

And I think tubeless is the future of road cycling wheels once big name tire manufacturers come onboard big time.

Nope. Pointless.
Try latex tubes and better tires.

Do latex tubes really make a positive difference in ride quality? Just asking.

I have heard that they do. But it may be placebo effect.

I actually have a set on the shelf but haven't installed them yet.

As far as going tubeless, some folks love them other folks say a major pain for minimal (or no) gain.

Your choice. I think the main benefit of tubeless is you can run lower PSI without fear of pinch flats.

Yes, the ride is very nice. I'm 185 and run mine front/rear at 95/100 psi.

OP, try it, then let us know how it works. It's supposed to work well with the Ksryiums. I have some SLs that I'd like to use tubeless (if I keep them).

You don't need a full Stan's kit; since the rim has no spoke holes, all you need is the valve and the tires. Then you'll enjoy thousands of kilometers of superior riding.

Just be sure to practice, at home, in the garage, fixing flats BEFORE you do it on the road. Search The Forums for the Road Tubeless threads for details.

I say go for it. I won't run anything BUT tubeless anymore, road or mountain.

I will say though, I haven't read up on which wheels are tubeless compatible in a few years since I had a wheelset that worked, now I have a Stan's wheelset. However, last time I read up, I remember seeing that the ONLY rim found not to really work with Stan's was a Mavic... I think it was the open pro... just nite that in the past, tubeless and mavic haven't always been friends (at least on the road, their UST mountain stuff kicks ass! No sealant or rim tape or tube and inflate with a floor pump? Yes please!)

I did my Ksyrium Elites with no problem. Like the ride with less PSI. I've had one flat that didn't seal, but nothing was going to stop that one. Something big and sharp, and I hit it pretty hard. I still carry a tube, just in case, so it was just a matter of pulling the tire off, cleaning out the sealant, and popping the tube in.
