Do cyclists still do this ? (80's)
We were teenage Greg Lemond Wanabe's back in the 80's and I have no clue where we saw it or learned it, but at stop lights, we would slow down side by side and latch on to each others bikes to keep from having to un clip at stop lights. Usually one would reach over and grab the others handle bar and the other would hold on to their shoulder. I think it was tougher to clip and unclip out of top clip cleats... (I can't believe I never fell)

No! But I will try it at the first stop light when I go riding with my buddy next time. He's had clipless for about a week, should be...instructive.

I had some teammates who did it from time to time in the 90's, but I just did a track stand by myself.

With clipless there's isn't much of a point to it. With double/triple toe straps it made more sense.

I just track stand.
But if I want to try this, do I really need to tell the person I'm riding with, or can that be a surprise?

I think you need to tell him, or he might think you're trying to grab his other bar, not handle bar..haha

I just trackstand too, since I do most of my riding by myself, or am commuting. And I agree with you, it's much harder to get out of clips and straps than clipless.
