Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campy-shimano experiment...

Okay, I got the gumption up to go ride in the cold today. I wanted to test something that the
Shimano Neutral support told me at Nationals this past summer.

They said that a person with Campy 10 (me) could ride a Shimano 9spd cassetted wheel without
noticing anything.

First of all, you can ride the Shimano 9spd cassette with the Campy 10 drivetrain. 2nd, it doesn't work as well as the Shimano guys led me to believe. It would work in a pinch, like a race, but don't expect perfection or smoothness. My chain jump quite a bit, especially when I wanted to have it on the 23, and wouldn't hold a gear without jumping a few times.

So, for those who wanted to know, I have some answers. It works, just not well.

no on both cases. I just didn't 'tune' or make any adjustments to the derailluer. I wanted to test it under what I would have under race conditions.

Like I said, it works, just not great.
