What is the name of the part that connects to this?

Hi everyone, I bought a shifter online but it did not come with the mounting to mount the bars. Does anyone know the name of the part I'm looking for, or better yet a part number or place I can buy one??? Here is a pic of what I got

I needed two of those after buying a pair of shifters off eBay that came w/o 'em. A quick Google search yielded this:

STI Lever Clamp Band

I ended up going to my LBS and they scavanged two of them off some take-offs for me...no charge.

Looks like the bar clamp is missing. This might be a tough find.

You need the whole shifter body & internal mechanism, not just the clamp.

Why did you buy just 1/2 a shifter if you need the whole thing ?

Thanks, but that's only one part of what I need. The levers I bought need to be mounted to a hood and the part you listed. Anyone else have any ideas?

Seriously, see if you can return it and start over. If you can't, it may still be easiest to eat it and buy the new lever(s).

Daewon774 08-21-11 08:53 PM

Can't return it. I'd like to see what I can do to complete this shifter. Anyone know where I can get the second half?

Homebrew01 08-21-11 08:55 PM

It would help to know the specific model #
Ebay ? Set up a search alert and when the part gets listed someday, you'll get an email.
Probably some retailers that sell odd spares ... Branford Bike ?
Good luck

Never seen what you need listed as a spare and I don't know how much support Shimano gives to 9 sp parts. Some people do rebuild shimano STIs so you may be able to track one down on Ebay but yeah. Good luck.

Go to a good bike shop. Any mechanic worth a grain of salt has a lot of misc spares from removed parts.

Shimano have pretty much all of their technical (i.e. build/repair) manuals online. Most of these have exploded views that show all the bits and pieces that make up any component.

See if yours is here - http://techdocs.shimano.com/techdocs/index.jsp.

jensonusa has the clamp band, but you need the entire shifter body. good luck.

Even if it means being more expensive AND being a lot of work (that you may not be capable of handling yourself)?

Sometimes the hunt & challenge make it all worthwhile.
Personally, I would put that piece in the parts box in case I need it some day, and just buy a complete shifter.

If you bought it on Ebay, and it was misrepresented, then you can return for a refund.

berserker19 08-22-11 06:51 AM

You didn't get a shifter, you got half of a shifter... You are missing the entire bracket assemble in addition to the pins and return springs. http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830728639.pdf
It will be very difficult to find those parts for that shifter, they will be expensive, and it will be difficult to put them all together successfully.

Paul Y. 08-22-11 01:29 PM

I hope you got that for half price.

$26 on ebay. 3AM snipe. This is why I don't mind looking for a the rest of the shifter...

The trouble saved is worth a hell of a lot more than $26, IMO, and coming out ahead is still not guaranteed.

Ikarios 08-22-11 02:12 PM

Silly question but have you gone to the LBS to ask them about it?

fosmith 08-22-11 02:28 PM

You should post this over in the Mechanic's forum. You are going to have alot of work to do to get this thing functional.
