Brand New Bike Stolen While Im On Vacation

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Brand New Bike Stolen While Im On Vacation

so i just bought a black/white 2011 specialized tarmac elite apex $1500 on that thing completely streached myself out to get this bike its been 2 week and i took it on vacation with me this weekend had it locked up to my car. yesterday i came out of the hotel the stupid bike lock was cut and the bikes were gone (my wifes $300 mountain bke was gone also) i cant believe it these people who take bikes just dont care about anyone else but themselves. i dont even now what to do i told the hotel manager and the cops but i dont think that will go an were the only way i could get another bike would be if i sold my car this makes me absolutly sick to my stomach just typing it. BTW it was stolen in Hyannis MA if anyone lives there and sees this bike I would offer a great reward for its return

First - I'm sorry for your loss. That really sucks. When I travel with my bike it goes in the hotel room at night....yes it's a hassle. My homeowners insurance actually extends to items stolen from my car so you might want to check that out. Renters insurance might be similar.

If you have renters insurance or home owner insurance it is covered. Make sure you have a police report.

That really stinks for you and your wife. I remember the first time I had a bike jacked from me... Back in the 80's, I was something like 10 years old. It still makes my blood boil! Hopefully the bikes turn up, if not, good luck with your insurance company.

My commuting bike was stolen while I was at work and my homeowner's insurance covered replacement value.

My bike was stolen at work. It was covered. Renters covers all theft, minus the deductible. Make sure you itemize the value of the bike.

Bad news on the bike theft; good news on the insurance coverage. I hope everything pans-out in your favor and you're back on two wheels soon.

yea it still sucks cuz its another 250$ and im not sure if i can get the pedals and bike computer covered but after thinking all day yesterday i had to spend another 2000. 250 + 50 for pedals and 30 for a computer is nothing i would still like to smack the person that took the bikes

that definetly sucks man, i'm sorry to hear about that. For future reference, thats an easy take though. When I take my bike places overnight I bring it in the hotel with me. I would never trust my bike to be left outside unadended like that.

Besides, bikes have feelings too ya know!!

While on vacation recently, my mother kept referring to my bike as "Bubbles the mistress" because I kept referring to it as "she" and bringing it into my wife and my bedroom. Glad to hear insurance will cover it. Hopefully you can find another 2011 Spec Elite. You might want to start calling around now because there aren't many 2011's around anymore.

Sorry for your lost. I had someone try to steal my bike once, did $2000 worth of damage to my car. We stop to get something to eat, the bikes where on the roof carrier. About 10 mins into lunch my car alarm went off. There some POS trying to rip the bikes off the roof, he had a pry bar rip at the rack. Thank god for good locks. I did get to see the POS in handcuffs.
Glad to hear you are covered, and get another bike.

Sorry for your loss, but next time - please never leave an expensive bike (or any bike you can't afford to lose) outside overnight, even locked to anything! It's an easy take and if it looks good (like a brand new specialized would), it's a very very high profile target.

it a shame and a hard way to learn a lesson. had my house broken into a couple months ago, only came in for one thing and left. didn't even search the house or touch the the marin urban bike sitting in the kitchen. bike was like new and only ridden maybe 5 times. who ever it was could have easily walked it out the kitchen door seeing they broke in through a kitchen window. hope i never find out who it was

Sorry for your loss. I just came back from vacation in Vermont and I kept my bikes in the room with me. The resort offered to keep them in their locked shed, but I didn't want to risk it. Not that VT is a high crime area, but all it takes is one loser!

$250 deductible is great...I had a $500 deductible. Anyway, anything you added to the bike, add to the total cost. Computer, pedals, bottle holders, seat, stem, wheels, tires, tape...otherwise your insurance will only give you face value of a stock bike.

Nothing Saturday, lots of life's distractions going on. Made up for it Sunday with a 75.6 mile ride at a 19.2 mph avg.

Wow that sucks. I just came back from a trip that I took my bike on, and I kept the bike inside my car at all times (except riding!). I had to take the wheels off and put them in the trunk to do that, and it was a pain in the arse, but it was safer than locking it to anything, IMO.
