Competitive Cyclist Acquired by Backcountry.com

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Competitive Cyclist Acquired by Backcountry.com

Details here

I hope this acquisition doesn't change much because CC is great to do business with when they have good sales.

I deal quite a bit with backcountry and they're great. Hopefully, it'll be a good fit

Looks like they're moving CC to Utah which means longer ship times for us on the east coast. Oh well.

We're talking a matter of *maybe* a day. I'm right next door and have had next day service because of proximity. East coast will take maybe three days, tops. They are good about expediting, it's not like the PBK/Icelandic volcano fiasco.

I don't think shipping will be that big of a deal. I sometimes buy things from shops on the west coast and it doesn't take that much longer. I just hope they keep the CC brand alive because I like their site and the customer service; they're not the cheapest out there but they make it up with a great returns policy and service.

I'm guesstimating an extra day for delivery. Not bad, but an extra day is an extra day.

My biggest issue with PBK shipping is that there's no way to track packages. I've had stuff delivered within 4 days to NYC. Other times, this past holiday season for example, it took something like 8wks+ and there was no way for them or myself to know if the package was lost, damaged, held up in customs, stolen by pirates, etc.

I like PBK but the biggest issue I have with them is the security of their site, I've had credit card issues with them in the past. The lack of tracking is another negative but their saving grace are the prices. Chainreactioncycles.com has been a safer site to deal with and they provide tracking of packages though often don't have the deep discounts PBK does.

Oh by the way, were you with kimconyc at Strictly's a few weeks back with the Major Taylor's group? I thought that was you but wasn't sure. That Sunday he rode up River Road and I went with the rest of the group up to West Point....let me rephrase for accuracy: the rest of the group rode up to Rockland Lake and 5 of us went up to West Point.

I don't see backcountry screwing this one up. I think this is a little surprising, but probably no impact to existing CC customers.

I hope Andy is first against the wall.

I'd rather have my sister go on a date with OJ Simpson than "Andy From Competitive Cyclist"

I just hope everything stays the same from the customer's point of view. I love their website, ordering process, customer service, email notifications, awesome sales, reviews, etc. Everything about CC is top notch. As long as none of this changes I'll continue to be a customer of theirs.

Reminds me of Jake's plea to Carrie Fischer at the end of The Blues Brothers. No chage for cab fare, tux didn't come back from the cleaners, LOCUSTS! It wasn't my fauuuuuult!

Yeah I had the same credit card security problem with them in 2009. Haven't had a problem since then and I ordered a lot of misc parts from them last year for a build. They're just such a good source for tire (tyre ) prices.

Yup I think that was me a few weeks ago. I was short on time that morning and just did a few hill repeats with kimconyc along river road/alpine. He was very patient with me while I wheezed up the hill. He's a beast of a rider. Ran into him this past weekend at Prospect Park.

When I'm not so pressed for time it would be great to get in a ride with you guys.

Great return policy, although I've never had to use it, and their brand, Stoic, has great merino stuff.

I'm sure he'd be very disappointed knowing he'll never have you as a brother-in-law.

I think CC set the bar for providing quality gear and service. Their website and product descriptions are phenomenal, and their regular sales on high-end gear kept me going. Hope that carries over...

btw, Andy now works for Speedgoat.com.

Yup. I ordered a Litespeed M1 at noon Monday with a few changes from standard build. UPS Tracking says it will be here Wednesday. Two day build and shipping combined. That puts a wow on cosutomer service. Wow !!!!

I think the credit card problems have been fixed, but I still use a one-time card number for them. At Bank of America Visa, I can log in to the website, and generate a temporary credit card number with a set maximum limit, good for 1-3 months. It only works at the vendor where I use it the first time. It shows up as a normal transaction on my regular statement.

BoA still emails and calls me every time to verify it's my purchase, even though I just generated a new number. Annoying.

My last purchase at PBK took 9 days. I was starting to worry. I don't like the no-tracking shipments.

check out this youtube video - it's CC's...nay, Andy's...review of the FSA Compacts. He mocks "ergo bars" in a way that subtly communicates "if you're using ergo bars, you're a dinosaur." Elsewhere on the site they sing the praises of ergo bars.
Also, he seems to say that he uses the product he's reviewing "on his personal bike."
So i'm just joking around that he's an untrustworthy snake.
