Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Holy crap Bonktown!

This deal was only up for a few minutes, but just snagged some Red shifters for $300. That's better than I can get working in the industry. Anyone else have some awesome scores from Bonktown recently? Pics of awesomeness?

I usually see the same jerseys and fixed gears over and over again. For some reason my work computer won't re-install their "thingy" every morning, and until they develop a "text you with the current deal" option I am still relegated to hit or miss.

All I see is a jersey now, you should have posted when the deal was still up

I couldn't - they only had 14 and in the 5 seconds I was deciding, saw 5 disappear. By the time I finished checkout, it was done. So it was only up for maybe a few minutes. Sorry.

I tried one of the Swobo 753 jerseys, and holy crap, it's awesome! I've now got all 4 colors. These jerseys are flippin' SWEET! They fit (me) better than any other jersey I have.

I also got some Cutter arm warmers with a thumb-hole that are really really nice.

I have other things that I bought through bonktown that are okay, but the Swobo jerseys and the cutter arm warmers stand-out.

No screaming deals, but I did pick up one of those Swobo 753 Merino Wool jerseys for $35 (something like that), recently. Got it on Thurs, wore it on Fri - I like it, will probably pick up more when they pop up again.

That's pretty good for Merino wool. I generally use Merino for winter base layers, but a jersey out of the material would be nice.

The Swobo 753 jerseys are actually something like a blend of 75% merino and 25% poly. It ends up being the most perfect material that ever was. It breathes, it stretches perfectly, it's really thin, it's not too hot, it doesn't stink after a ride, yada yada yada. It's just really nice stuff.

It is a blend (like SmartWool - I think that it's 30-ish% poly), but it's a pretty light and breathes well, more so than typical 150 gsm merino. Full zip, deep pockets. Nice.

They have been putting out Red components for the past week or so. to date, I've seen FD/RD brake set, cassette. I vaugely remember seeing crankset too, but I might be confusing it with the S975 crank they had a couple of days ago. Too bad I got an Ultegra groupset a month ago. I would have liked to buy them as they became available.

Oh, on that note - in addition to the widgets and whatnot, if you "like" them on facebook, they sometimes give you a little heads-up when something good is on the way.

Yup, they had a BB30 SRAM Red crankset on the site a few weeks ago and they just flew out.

^ LOL!

No, don't stop. I think Swobo needs all the good posts/praise they can get, and I think they deserve it.
But then again, if everyone starts buying Swobo stuff, they probably won't end up on Bonktown for $35. So nevermind.

Not sure if I could do that because my wife would get wise to possible acquisitions. She'd be okay with it because I generally break even with selling stuff on ebay, though.

Yup. I find anymore that when pricing even for teammates I am asking them to do the legwork and go to a few places like BT before hitting me up. Under US Wholesale for sure.

Bonktown, Chainlove and their sister sites are all closeouts right? This would indicate to me that Red is changing soon and SRAM is dumping stock. Right?

I have a bunch of stuff from them...Swobo Sanchez fixed gear, Castelli jersey and bibs...got some Time ATAC pedals for my wife.

Yeah, pretty much.

Not necessarily - you don't know for sure that it's SRAM that's dumping stock. It could have been picked up from a dying retailer, etc.

Nope - those sites are clearance sites for currently held inventory of backcountry.com. Distributors have been running clearance ads for a while on "Red - Grey" because "Red - Black" is the "new grey".....

I missed a SRAM Red cassette for $75 or so. They've got a pair of Shimano custom fit road shoes with carbon soles for $125 right now, and I'm going to pass on them.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I got my crank recently. Only thing is I haven't had time to ebay my old stuff so I have a bunch of stuff on my cc's. Grr.

i love that whole company. they are great to buy snowboarding gear from as well. they have amazing customer service if you ever need to call them. i snagged some castelli podium bibs for $78, they retail for about $220 i think. the crazy thing was i asked them to run them and they did but much lower price than i expected! check out departmentofgoods.com and if you see anything you want, ask "hookup" in the bonktown forum to run it for you. doesn't always happen, but sometimes he will warn you its coming up so you dont miss your deal on the item you want
