Who was riding during the earthquake?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

^^^ less than an hour ago - it was centered in VA, tremors felt as far north as Cape Cod.

Wife's building in Chelsea was evacuated - half day! In Brooklyn, I didn't feel it, though many others got the signal loud and clear.

Felt it in Stamford quite clearly. No question as to what it was. Sadly, not on the bike.

Was working at home, which is 20 mi NW of the DC beltway. It felt strong here and sounded like a train right outside the window. It lasted 45 seconds - enough time for me to walk outside and see the windows of my house continue to shake for about 20 seconds. I recorded the time as 1:52 PM....an hour ago now.

I was, but didn't feel a thing. I'm on the other side of the country. Hope everyone is safe and well.

I felt it at work in Brooklyn. Thought my high chair was a bit wobbly, then my co-workers decided to scream get out, earthquake. That was when I realize. It was a spectacle to see everyone around the block outside.

My bike was with me at work, was tempted to take it and ride home.

Welcome to our world. Kinda upside world right now, but still.

I'm going to be very, very pissed if you start shipping tornadoes and ice-storms out here.

Hope everyone's good.

Uhm, really? I thought that I'd gotten away from them when I moved out of MN, but I was wrong.

edit - never mind, just read what you said a little more slowly. FWIW, the in-laws in VA have been getting a hell of a lot more snow and ice than they should.

I'm in Herndon, VA and happened to be driving on the roads to go pick up lunch for a few of us at work. I didn't feel a thing, but everyone at work said the building was rocking like crazy. I was confused why everyone was standing outside the building as I'm walking in with a sack full of food, smiling and saying hello to everyone standing outside. They must have thought I was crazy! Quite hilarious...

Why don't you feel it when you're driving? I wonder if the same thing happens when riding a bike...

That happened to me once- I thought the road was just a little bumpy... until I looked around and noticed the power poles were SWAYING back and forth.

Maybe that's the updated verison of that old book, A Tree Falls in Brooklyn.

I blame it all on the Russians messing with the weather...

I work right off Centerville Rd and Sunrise Valley. I actually live near where you work.

I don't ride in because I wouldn't want my bike sitting outside all day, and the company I work for probably wouldn't want bicycles being rolled through the lobby.

I noticed your location is Vienna. I ride through there all the time! Do you ride with anyone? If not, want to meet up and go for a ride one day? I just moved here from the Midwest about 7 months ago and I still haven't made any cycling friends. Doing only solo rides starts to suck after a while...

I was setting up my new computer on my bike if that counts. I keep my bike in back at work and when I came out from back there, the receptionist asked me wtf I was doing because I was shaking the entire building.
