My first 75+ mile ride

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first 75+ mile ride

Tomorrow at 7am I start my 76.7 mile ride. So far the longest I have done was 54.5 miles and that was last week. I have a nice country route all mapped out. Been riding around 130 to 160 miles a week right now. Anyway thought I would post it on here.

Good luck. You'll be fine. If you reach a point where the only thing you can think about is eating... you didn't eat enough.

I take gel packs with me and use them anytime I feel I need some calories. Plus I can stop for food at s few places along the way if I need to.

Don't depend on gel packs for a long distance. They just don't have the variety of nutrients your body will need. Seriously consider getting some fresh fruits along the way, as well as a heavy load of salts (gatorade for example).

FactVord...to far from the lakes to go by them on this ride. But I do have a goal next year to ride 500 miles. In 5-6 days, with my wife meeting me at diffrent spots for food and overnights using the car.

Start out slow and take your time. It's not a race. Gel and Gatorade will be plenty sufficient for a 75 mile ride with a Clif bar for lunch in the middle of your ride. At least it works for me. Remember to drink before you are thirsty and eat before you are hungry. good luck with the ride.

Remember the protein (Clif or Powerbar is easily sufficient)!

Good luck!

I made it....77.5 miles. Wow that was hard. It was a very beautiful ride though. A little foggy when I started and only around 59 degs. I love ridding in cooler weather. The last 15 miles was very hard. But thinking about a ice cold guinness extra stout beer when I got home helped me push though !
