Strange 6spd gripshift Giant Peloton 7000 info needed
A friend of me showed up at my house with a Giant Peloton 7000.
I started laughing at his frankenbike because at that moment it looked really weird:
End 90's Purple Giant frame (in nice condition and rather modern looking) but the parts were:
- 6spd SRAM GripShift (on dropbars!)
- a very low level SIS Shimano derailleur (TY series, from 1983!)
- Sakae crankset with welded chain rings
- Dia Compe 80s looking brakes
- Nice rigida aero rims, but with 6 speed sprocket
My first thought: Someone took a frame and put his spare parts on it.
But... I did some Google and it turned out to be original! The 1999 model was gold yellow with 7spd RSX group but this one had this setup. That is not how i know Giant. Can't find a lot of info but does anyone know this year/model? And why would they put gripshift on a racer?
I try to find some pictures
btw i thought it was Giant Peleton 7000, but it's spelled peloton

Got this from a Giant archive page and the photo does show STI shifters on it. However, there was another link from Australia, that showed the same bike with a flat bar and grip shifters. I guess they had different variations of the bike in different countries.
Specifications: (from the Giant Archive Page)
size 49, 53, 56, 59, 62 cms
frame Chromoly double butted TIG welded main frame with internal cable
routing. 0.9/0.6/0.9 mm wall thickness for low weight/high strength
fork High-tensile front fork
derailleur Derailleurs 14-speed Shimano RSX front and rear derailleurs with
easy-reach Shimano new RSX STI Dual Control shifters.
colour Candy gold yellow
crankset CPI 42 x 52/Shimano MF-HG-37 14-28
additional Lightweight aluminium Formula hubs, Dual pivot brakes and aluminium
handlebar, Aluminium cage pedals (with toe clips), Rigida Alex double
wall rims, Selle Italia XO saddle
Edit: Sorry, I just read the full article on the Australian blog site and the blogger added the straight bar and shifters. My bad for not reading the entire article before posting.
