Is this still a great deal?
I'm looking at buying a Kestrel Evoke SL. Bikesdirect has them for 1895 with full rival, ksyrium equipe wheels carbon fiber bars and stem. ITs basically the std configuration that is shown on the Kestrel website.
In doing my research I came across one initially asking $2000 and it seemed like it may have been gently used but in excellent shape. I pointed them in the direction of the bikes direct link and said that if they could do it for $1300 I'd be interested.
I got a response back from them saying thanking for sending them the link, they were unaware of that. They said the bike is really not used, they are a brick and mortar bike shop and the only use was some demo miles and thats it. It has a light scratch on the seat tube, nothing major. He then said he could do it for $1500 as they've had it in the shop a couple years and it's not selling and its time to go.
Now here's the rub. Upon further inspection, the bike at the shope has Easton EA 50 bars and stem (not carbon) as well as Aksium Wheels. I know that the alloy bars are fine on a functional level but I kind of feel like its taking a mercedes and ditching the nice wheels for a set of hubcaps. I asked the guy on the phone and he said he can't go lower, that he is already taking a bath on it.
Would you guys still buy this bike at $1500? Truth is, I'm not going to use the wheels. I'm a clyde and while i hear the aksiums are quite tough, I think here in NYC I can easily sell them on Craigslist for $200 since they sell new for $250. I already have a set of wheels that are lighter and will match the bike nicely. Whatever bike I buy will mean I have to sell my existing road bike. It has carbon bars and stem and I could command more money in resale if I leave them on, but if I get this kestrel I will probably take them off and swap.

Cant get them for that price from BD. they are 1899. They apparently have one for sale for $1699 but it's not in my size. I have emailed BD to see if they will sell me the one they have in my size for 1699 but i'm not expecting to get lucky.
The bikeshop selling it to me is not a local shop, they are out of state so they shouldn't charge me sales tax either.

cmon guys, some of you must have thoughts!
What about this bike? https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...ortal_fire.htm
It's a full force group as opposed to Rival and has ksyrium Elite so it's got even better wheels than the full priced evoke sl. obviously there is the prestige factor but I really don't care about that, I really don't want to spend much more than 1500 but surely I should be able to sell BRAND NEW ksyrium elite wheels to someone with a set of tires on them for $400 here in the NYC area so that would get me back down to the price range i'm looking at.
