DT Swiss Champion RR 1850

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

DT Swiss Champion RR 1850

I am a heavier rider (185lbs in season, and 200lbs offseason) but it's muscular not body fat. I need a strong wheelset that rolls well. The DT Swiss RR1850 was recommended to me me. But is 1850g still too heavy? Any input would be awesome. alternatives?

How much $$$?

Those are what? Pretty much DT240 hubs and RR565 rims? That would definitely be good rims for you, but maybe you'd want something with a steel or TI freehub body - IIRC the DT240 rear hub has an alloy freehub body, and that will get cut up by a larger, heavier rider. IIRC White Industries hubs have TI freehub bodies.

If you're not in a hurry, you can probably get a custom builder to make you a set with 20- or 24-spokes up front and 28- or 32-spoke on the rear wheel for less than the DT RR 1850s.
