Component Brands?

I did some searching but could not find any information on component makers that are NOT Sram, Shimano, or Campy? I was looking for small company that made great components.

All have websites and Wiki pages. Unless you're looking for SunTour or something.

What components are you interested in?

cj51974 09-04-11 04:21 PM

I guess I should have said that I hate buying from big companies while small companies are out there. I was looking to replace some parts over the winter. I currently have Ultergra components and looking for a small company that makes quality stuff.

garciawork 09-04-11 04:34 PM

I don't know of any besides the big three and... microshift. Not sure if there are any small guys out there. I'd support the people with the real R&D departments who make enough of the stuff to keep the cost down, a little at least. I'm sure any small company would basically have to **** us on price because they wouldn't be having too much bulk built, and if they DID have bulk, they wouldn't be small, would they?

Suntour is probably the only brand to offer a full component group (including integrated shifters) but you could build most of a bike with all "smaller" brand components if you wanted.

canam73 09-04-11 09:15 PM

I suspect that any non big three shifters and derailleurs that you find will end up being re-branded microshift. This will include Forte, Nashbar, Sampson and Sunrace. Brakes and cranksets you will have more options.

Tektro is the biggest brake maker, and many house brands are made by them. Their stuff covers the map from poor to good. Cane Creek, KCNC, Zero Gravity and TRP are some quality brake makers that you may want to look at.

There are multiple crankset makers, but all have to use one of a limited number of bottom bracket standards so that is something else to pay attention to when choosing. FSA and Easton are the most common and a good place to start.

Here you go:

No need to buy ****ty heavy aluminum cranks from SRAM, campy, or shimano when you can buy this one:

Suntour is good and extremely cheap.

Problem is, they don't sell in US/CA/Europe AFAIK.

Here in Mexico you can find top-level 10 speed suntour components such as:crankset, cassette, chain, shifters, etc for extremely little cost.

For example, the really nice 10 speed sram-like suntour crank is $120 or something like that. The entire gruppo would be like $350 or half of what Apex costs and practically the same weight/quality.

Back in the late 70's I was in love with Zeus components and always wanted a complete 2000 or Super Cronos group. I would love to put a steel frame bike together using all Zeus parts...

There's a great small company named "Token" out of Taiwan which makes derailures, brakes, wheels, saddles, cranks, etc.
They have an up-brand called "Accura" which are very nice high end components. I have their stems, handlebars and saddles.

miche has some great components that are designed to work with campy 9, 10, and 11spd systems.
