Retul or BG/static fit

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Retul or BG/static fit

Would just like some opinions on if you had the choice between the two which one would you choose. The main reason I want a fit is that something just doesn't feel right on the left side compared to my right. Also, I don't race but enjoy fast and longer recreational rides and want to try to avoid any overuse injuries brought on by a poor fit.

The BG fit is done on a trainer, but there is no motion capture and I think you just pedal a while and then they stop you in certain positions and check angles with goniometers and such. At least this is what they did several years ago. One gentleman has extensive knowledge but he wouldn't be the one doing the fit anymore.

My other option for an extra 20.00 I believe is the retul fit. I'd like to do this but not sure how long they've been doing retul fits or if a retul fit is better than the other. I know it's just a tool but I just feel it would be a better tool to see the fit as you're pedaling.

Anyway, just looking for some opions/input on the above.

I need to take my daughter to ballet now so I'll check back later, Thanks.

I had a Retul fitting and swear by it. To me it was the best money I ever spent on cycling, other than the bike. I had it done right after I bought the bike and I have not had an uncomfortable moment on the bike since I got the fit. I would suggest that you first talk to the fitter and make sure that he is certified by Retul. There are some fitters that are not Retul certified but offer a Retul fitting. Those fitters are listed on Retul's web site. I would also find out from the fitter how many sessions it takes before they consider the fit as being completed. My fit took three sittings and about two months of riding before the final adjustments were made. I have heard of some places that try and do it in one fitting and that, to me, just isn't going to get it done as the first fitting should be your baseline fitting. Good luck with whichever system you decide on and I hope the fit will get rid of your problems.

Thanks John...I'll have to do a bit of investigation on the retul fitter I'm looking at. There are others but they are about a 2 hr drive...this one's about 40 min. They also offer compu trainer sessions. Doesn't sound like they are a bike shop, but more of a cycling fitness center.

Retul by far. I had mine done by Adam Baskin in Orlando Florida. He spent hours with me adjusting cleats and shimming and constantly adjusting my saddle and such. I had severe knee problems when I went to him after having 3 static fitting with no luck. By that afternoon I was riding my bike again. within a week the pain was gone and I was racing. retul is the real deal

Don't worry about the branded fit system, what you want is an experienced fitter. He'll use whatever tools he finds useful and appropriate, regardless of "system".
