Asking too much?
Ive had this bike posted on craigslist for about a month or so. Ive had alot of inquiries but only 1 guy actually came to ride it, he wasnt "ready to pull the trigger just yet". Do you guys think im off my rocker asking 550?

its only worth what someone else will pay for it. with that said, I have seen LeMonds going for about that price, but not aluminum frames with a ding on it. also, I don't see how advertising the weight is helping you when it's 20 pounds. I mean if it was 16 pounds, but 20? just my 2 cents.

I would remove the weight too =D

you are asking too much because a lot of people that are considering spending $500+ on a used bike are somewhat bike savvy and they want to see it be higher end because brand new they can get a bike with 105 components from Bikes direct for $700 http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...ventnoir_x.htm
Remove the weight from the listing and you don't have to mention that you bought it used, that just makes it sound even sketchier. I'm sure the bike is in fine working order and a small ding on a 6 year old bike shouldn't be a big deal. just keep in mind, it is a 6 year old bike. |
The price seems ok to me. I always overprice things a little on Craigslist to give me room to haggle. I would expect someone to offer $450 to $500 for this bike.
Also, when in the week are you posting this? I found that if I posted bikes on Mondays, I'd get a couple of emails on Monday and Tuesday, but by the time the weekend came around, no one was interested. But by posting on late Thursday or early Friday, I got better response and people were more willing to come see the bike on the weekend. I sold the bike that first weekend after the late week posting. Finally, this is a time of year when bike sales slow, so you may be stuck holding the bike until the spring. |
yeah, i also agree that you should always post high in price on CL because most people naturally assume it's open for haggling. if you can afford to keep the bike, keep it, if you really need to sell it and move it quick $400 will probably do that.

I wouldn't buy an aluminum frame with a dent at any price. Maybe that's a common attitude, I don't know.

Definitely asking too much. Appreciate the honesty, but when you say it's a used - then used again bike, that just killed your price even more. Nobody wants to pay even $200 for a bike with unknown history and clear signs of wear, even if it's cosmetic wear. Not worth the risk of part failure. Especially when you can get a new BD bike with Tiagra (not much inferior to 105) for the same exact price.
I'm guesstimating that you'll have to come down by at least a third, if not half in price. Market will dictate. |
