Bad idea to take decals off wheels?

I am tempted to take the fat red/white stickers off of my fulcrum racing 7's. Is this stupid? Will it hurt the value? Is it fred? Will it look better? Should I just leave them alone?

I've also been contemplating taking the decals off my Boyd 50mm clinchers, haven't decided yet.

Runner 1 09-07-11 09:38 PM

no, no, no, yes, yes, no

I think the boyds look awesome WITH the decals.

tons of people debadge their wheels. I would think it would hurt for resale value if you didn't keep the decals becuase the buyer may not have a way to know for a fact they are what you claim they are? It wont hurt the wheel by any means. as for what looks better, you will find different answers

theres a question in the title of the post .. i thought so at first but nope..

op: you can always replace the stickers with the same ones down the road.. or for that matter with whatever sticker you want.. maybe you want some ZIPP fulcrums luls..

robberry 09-07-11 10:05 PM

Stupidly enough, you'll probably be able to sell them easier if you leave them on.

You can generally always buy new decals from the manufacturer and re-apply...de-badge away.

Check out question #6 in Fulcrum's FAQ http://www.fulcrumwheels.com/en/faq ;)

Can't believe no one has asked how much the stickers weigh yet :p

I'm not really planning on selling them, but maybe someday.

robberry 09-07-11 10:29 PM

You will at some point. ;)

mazdaspeed 09-07-11 10:34 PM

Yeah to be honest I don't even like them that much, they seem flexy to me :( They are pretty heavy too, 1900 grams or something. Sigh. Other people think they look expensive though...

Toadster 09-07-11 10:34 PM

throws off the balance...

urbanknight 09-07-11 10:57 PM

On the heavy wheels like yours, it's ok, but on the super lightweight wheels, the stickers are what's holding them together.

Yep, removing Load Bearing Decals can be very dangerous. Those LBDs are almost as expensive as the wheels themselves!

I just took the EA50 stickers off mine, not to eliminate the cheapy aspect...but to balance them visually. Remove that and you're left with just "Easton" at 180degrees. Nice and clean.

You've also got to consider laminar air flow. Take the decal off and you destroy the aerodynamics of the wheel.

On the other hand, the wheel set went for $120 on bonktown a month ago, so resale value isn't terribly high to begin with.

This. Don't worry about resale because your wheels aren't worth much on the used market.

JazNine 09-08-11 10:56 AM

A lot of racing bikes have waaaay too many decals for my taste. By removing the wheel decals I eliminated 12 decals from my Trek. If they want that much promotion they can pay me.

Paul Y. 09-08-11 11:30 AM

Take them off, those big decals on wheels make me dizzy.

RichardGlover 09-08-11 12:17 PM

The decals weigh less than whatever dirt and grime will attach to the leftover gum on your wheels.

jfmckenna 09-08-11 01:04 PM

My 58mm tubulars have no decals on them. Thats the way I bought them and I am glad some one had already taken them off. I hate big dorky decals on anything. You want me to show your logo? Then pay me!
