nice frames at my lbs

so today the bridge (golden gate bridge) reopens the west side (bike only side) and it was windy as all. had to gear down going into the wind at the towers and hold the brake coming out with a tail wind. but I was at the lbs and they had a nice waterford stainless steel frame with sweet lugs...all bright and shiny! I picked it up and it felt pretty light. it seemed like the weight was in the back. I knew the scale was behind me so I turn to put the waterford on it, but there was another frame there...a time vrs black and red. it was a little over 4 pounds. thats with seatpost, headset, fork and stem! the waterford was a respectable 3.4 pounds, but the time was crazy light!

I'm guessing it's this:

Although I don't know why it would weigh less than other top steel tube sets.

I've got an 853 Waterford that weighs 18.2 lbs. Not sure what the frame weighs by itself but the build is nothing special in terms of lightness (Reynolds Ouzi Pro fork, D/A, Kysrium wheels, etc.)

the stainless steel tubing that is made for bike frames, i.e. KVA, Reynolds 953, and Columbus XCR is high strength and drawn into very light tube sets. This is not generally the case with "stainless steel," which is a very imprecise term.

Stainless frames have intrigued me since it was announced as a build option buy I really have been unable to find a decent review on the ride quality vs. other materials. Anybody out there that can point me to some info?

some people have asserted that stainless tubing is a Ti killer, but it doesn't seem to have played out that way. I haven't managed to get over the almost 4x price premium, maybe my next frame.

Be careful checking out those beautiful frames hanging on bike shop walls.

I did this just over a month ago and now have a new Serotta in my garage...

Interesting, thanks!
