Question about BB30 and switching cranks

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question about BB30 and switching cranks

I was reading through the "other" BB30 thread and read something that suggested that you cannot just swap cranks, that they require a specific (non Shimano) crankset.
Talking to my shop about it while buying the bike, and they mentioned that you could put any crank that "fit" on there, including Shimano....

The bike is currently outfitted with FSA Gossamer cranks, and I would like to outfit it with a set of 105, mostly just for asthetic reasons...I really like the look of the "new" Shimano cranksets. The other reason being that I don't like the "octolink" looking hookup on the FSA cranks.

All you need is an adapter to run Shimano cranks. Cannondale makes one, which I believe is out of stock, as does Wheels Manufacturing (a superior adapter in that its less permanent).

Thanks. I would guess that this adapter is just a "shim" of sorts and adds another wear part to the equation?

There is an adapter made to convert the BB30 shell for Shimano cranks. Google it.

There are actually three possible ways (at least) of doing it:

1. Fit BB30 bearings and get the Wheels Manufacturing adaptor for Shimano cranks;
2. Fit a FSA press-in sleeve and then screw in standard Shimano external bearing BB cups ready for the crank;
3. Use the KCNC adaptor cartridge that presses into the BB30 shell and has built-in bearings.

I'm using the Wheels Manufacturing adapters:

No issues.

Just installed the Wheels Manufacturing set up today. Bearings & adapters. Worked flawlessly and easy to put on.
