Shoe Sizes
Hey, i currently have specialized sport mountain bike shoes, they are size 45 (size 12). Now i am looking to get road shoes, most of the bike shops and online you have to order them so you cant test them before. So what size road shoes would i need? would they be size 12? I am looking at Sidi shoes.

Like all footwear, road shoe sizes are dependent on the manufacturer, sometimes the specific shoe. If you don't know your size already your best bet would be to go to an LBS and try on shoes. You can also look at the manufacturer's sizing guides and read reviews to see if the shoes are small/true/larger than usual.

I have found bike shoe sizing to be ALL OVER the board. In normal American sizing, I wear a 13.5, and sometimes even a 14. (i know.. huge ass feet). But I ended up in a Shimano size 47 road shoe... which is more like a 12 or 12.5... which I haven't worn since I was 13 years old.
My point? you really need to try them on.

I'm a contrarian on this subject. I actually think mail order is better than LBS for shoes. The reason is you really don't know if the shoes are going to work for you until you've actually cleated them up and done some riding. Bike shops are understandably hesitant to take them back once you've done that, but most of the bigger internet sources have 'no questions asked' return policies. So, you might be out shipping but you'll save way more than that over retail pricing and you won't be stuck with a pair of shoes that felt fine in the store but is utter fail after fifty miles.

With good return policies, shopping online can be great. For instance, Zappos has some cycling shoes, free shipping, and free return shipping. Other websites have excellent return policies as well.
A good recent thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...rning-shoes...
From the thread:

and:
"The chart's excellent, but it doesn't list Specialized, Scott, and Bontrager. In case anyone's interested, Specialized and Scott run almost a half-size larger than Shimano, and Bontrager runs a half-size smaller.
Pearl Izumi got new lasts when they revamped their line for 2009. The shoes generally got a full size smaller."
