Winter clothing
Just curious, for leg what do people use when temperate is around freezing point? Tight + padded short/bib combination or get padded tight in the first place. I'm looking a new pair this winter but can't decide yet. Is there advantage one way over the other?
Thanks.
Thanks.

In it, all your questions about what to wear while cycling in the winter have been answered. In the stickies, there is a Winter Clothing Guide thread and a Today I Wore thread which might help.

For right around freezing point you can probably just use tights over shorts. If a bit above freezing point you may even get by with leg warmers. If a bit below freezing you probably want layers, ie Tights AND leg warmers over shorts/bibs.

Hi, I am not quite as warm blooded as the previous posters. In the 40's I need more than just a thin tight. I really like the Pearl Izumi amfib tight which has two layers on the front ( a fleece covered by a wind break fabric) with no chamois but no wind fabric on the back of your leg. These are available as a tight or a bib for around $100 to $110 from Nashbar or realcyclist. As for the choice of a bib vs a tight I don't have any comparative data as I have never owned any bibs (but conclude they must be warmer)

And cyclist will talk about winter conditions from rainy and cool to bitterly cold with snow and ice.
