Need bike computer recommendation

I'm looking for a wireless computer with a thermometer and a backlit screen. Any suggestions for a good one? Don't need cadence or heart rate. Thanks in advance.

I love my Garmin Edge 500

The only one that has a back-lit screen at that price that Performance sells. Just so happens that it also has temperature and calories. Not a bad computer, have it on my mountain bike.

Also, the edge 500 is fantastic, but quite more expensive and fancier than what you want, that's what I use primarily.

I'm most likely doing the Garmin 500 - maybe the 705 or 800 if I get a few extra $$$

turn by turn on the bike would be pretty sweet if you like to travel a bit :)

IMHO, I think that basically gives you the 2 options. Either you get something fairly simple and cheap, or you get the Edge 500. The Edge 500 sets the price point low enough, and is desirable enough, there's no reason to buy an expensive computer that doesn't have GPS, and Ant+.

blastississimo 09-19-11 09:54 AM

Edge 500, definitely. I'm in love with my 800, too, if you can score a good deal on it!

I have the Node 2, but based on what you said, the Node 1 would be perfect.

500 is better than the 705. Newer, more sensitive GPS chipset, smaller form factor, and longer battery life.

+1 .............end of discussion!

Edge 500, so darn expensive but still my best item so far.

Vicelord 09-19-11 11:55 AM

has anyone mentioned Garmin Edge 500? I think you should get that one.

LOL

Seriously though, I switched to one from my Strada and couldn't be happier.

Yeah, why hasn't anyone mentioned the Garmin Edge 500 model? I find it to be quite satisfying with the CS-10 sensor and HR monitor combination (yes you do NEED them) ;)... but not the blue trim, it doesn't match CF frames!

himespau 09-19-11 12:10 PM

If you want something very simple, I think there's a planet bike model for like $40 that just has speed, odometer, and temp, but I'm pretty sure it's backlit.

I love the iPhone options - but battery life is the hitch here.... :(

I did 76 miles the other day and was down to 49% left using Strava - when I'm doing 100+ I'm worried about not having enough juice to keep the phone alive

Not that I advocate using a smartphone to track cycling, but what about a small solar charger to keep it from running down so fast?

hey tcwayne. how much are you willing to sell the node 2 for? if i cannot ask that here i am sorry. i had a node 1 that fell off during a ride. totally my fault, so i already have the sensor.

snowman40 09-28-11 04:33 PM

I like my Sigma Sport ones. I think all the wireless ones come with the two features you want.
