Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Help Interpreting Fit Calculator

I just did the fit calculator over at competitive cyclist and I just realized I have no idea what do with it. I've tried pulling up the geometries of bikes i'm looking at and comparing the two, but I don't have any sense for how much it should line up and what kind of bike it is saying will fit me best. Could someone give me some general pointers, or even better, tell me what I should take from this:

The Competitive Fit (cm)
-------------------------------------------
Seat tube range c-c: 52.6 - 53.1
Seat tube range c-t: 54.3 - 54.8
Top tube length: 55.0 - 55.4
Stem Length: 11.2 - 11.8
BB-Saddle Position: 69.5 - 71.5
Saddle-Handlebar: 53.8 - 54.4
Saddle Setback: 5.1 - 5.5

The Eddy Fit (cm)
-------------------------------------------
Seat tube range c-c: 53.8 - 54.3
Seat tube range c-t: 55.5 - 56.0
Top tube length: 55.0 - 55.4
Stem Length: 10.1 - 10.7
BB-Saddle Position: 68.7 - 70.7
Saddle-Handlebar: 54.6 - 55.2
Saddle Setback: 6.3 - 6.7

PS I'm looking for an entry level road bike, such as a Caad10, Felt f75, giant defy, or trek 2.1. Thanks

For the bikes you are looking at, pull up their specific geometry charts and see how numbers match. So for a CAAD 10, focus on effective top tube: both fits say 55.0-55.4. A 54cm CAAD is 54.5cm and a 56cm is 56.0. So by top tube, you are between those two sizes. So look at seat tube: a 54cm CAAD is 52, and a 56cm is 54. Now unfortunately, i can't tell by the CAAD drawing if that is c-c or c-t, and with compact geometry, there can be big differences.

So what does this mean? It means on that bike, you are prolly between those two sizes. That is largely all it means.
