Staying in road shape with a mountain bike?
Had to sell my road bike a while back (broke college single father), will be quite a while before I can get a road bike again. So im stuck with an older mountain bike. I want to stay in great road shape, should have a bike back next year hopefully. Do you guys think if I set it up with "road geometry" and ride it as much as I did my road bike that I can swing my leg over a road bike next year and be ready to race?

Yes. I think the issue will be position on the bike. Put some aerobars on it, so you can get low, and train yourself to produce power in a low position.
