Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kinglake Cycle

Hey Guys,

I did a hill climb the other day after a 100km flat ride up near King Lake in Victoria (will probably mean nothing to most people here). Its stats are:

Total Distance:
7.46km | 4.64mi
Average Gradient: 4.8%
Elevation Gain:
358m | 1,175ft

Its on paved road so I found it nice a nice and easy climb, not really good conditioning for any hilly events that might be coming up. I wouldn't really say I'm proven cyclist after this. I was wonder if there where some real hills out there to train on. What are some good hill out near you that get your blood pumping so I know what to aim for?

Try Lake Mountain from Marysville.

Skyline Road from Eildon to UT Creek Rd and on to Alexandra (or vice versa) .

Yarck to Ruffy.

Euroa to Merton, or Euroa to Strathbogie.

Euroa to Ruffy.

Warburton to Lake Mountain.

Warburton to Mt Donna Buang.

Murchison Gap from Strath Creek to Broadford.

I am presuming the climb you did was The Slide.

We're also considering taking on the 7 Peaks Alpine Ascent Challenge this year:

https://www.visitvictoria.com/Regions...Challenge.aspx

Two of those climbs are quite close to where we live. Three could potentially be done on a long weekend.

I had a look at that site the other day ... interesting. It describes a lot of the climbs in the 7-Peaks Challenge, as well as several others.
