Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Most of the guys would remove the rear brake for the weight reduction. The groups would have 35 or more guys screaming down the road. Grouped tightly. Sounds kinky I know. It was dicey to say the least. Couldn't blink, and damn sure not grab a water bottle.

If you really wanted to hang with the big boys you'd follow your 'fights' thread to trollheim. You gonna let them damn mods kick you off your prize? You gonna let them trollers scare you away?

So, when are you going to put the ride on Strava? You did 25 the whole ride?

That reminds me when I raced motorcycles, this guy would do 40+ laps at 1:32 and higher and one lap at 1.29.98 and he'd tell everybody that he was running .29s all day!

So I don't get it. I ride with the "big boys" every Saturday for their warm up ride at 7am. They go off after that and do the 30mph+ training ride and I go meet the 24 south at 8:30.

Are you here to piss in my cheerios?

I rode with some of the best riders in the city, I was extremely intimidated at first, and then I got comfortable and realized it's not that big a deal. They dropped me a couple times and I worked like hell to catch back up when I had a downhill.

It's like nobody around here wants anyone else to feel good about themselves, rather as soon as someone feels good, it's best to pop them and make them sad.

So, tcwayne, you never had a first time riding with good riders?

You people amaze me sometimes. Really. Almost like some of you are jerks purposefully.

I think it was the Cat 1/2/3 remark that did it for us this time.

wasn't my first group ride.

As for the cat1/2/3 that doesn't mean they were riding at race speeds. If they were, I'd be dust after 1/2 mile.

The point is I took the advice I was given here and rode with a group that was well beyond my ability, and it didn't turn into a **** fest. Whether they were trying or not, I feel good about it. Thank you for trying to pop my little happy bubble from today.

We averaged probably about 18-19. There were points we were crusing 20-25, there were points we were cruising 16-17. there were places they were cruising 25+ and I was huffing and puffing at 16, there were times when they were climbing a hill at 15+ and I was working like hell to go 10. My only saving grace were the two long downhills that they coasted/cruised down and I gave every ounce of effort I had to catch back up. When I was with the group, I left it all there to take my turn once, and stay in the middle of the pack the rest of the time to keep my speed up.

All of that should be meaningless... I swallowed my fear and did it. Everyone told me to stop my hand wringing, so I did, now people are trying to raise the BS flag. No wonder I do so much hand wringing, I'm told that every god damn thing I do is wrong.

Can't.****ing.win.

I'd like to join in and make fun as well, but I'll just say nice job. You've had a rough enough time being forcibly introduced to a sexual encounter with another man and hand cuffs.

Lordy do you need to HTFU.

Or stop starting threads about every little bit of minutia that goes on in your life. If you are gonna post your whingy life on the internet, grow some cojones.

actually yes, yes we did, for about 2 miles. There was a run-in with a local who I recognized that blew by us unannounced, and that was handled with reciprocation by one of the riders in our group. Other than that, no MUP drama.

I've been here for a few months, thought I was out of the loop at first, but now I've discovered it's just a bunch of people trying to make everyone else feel inferior.

It's not just me, either. I notice them doing it to each other all the time too.
