DeFREDifying your bike with cooler water bottle cages

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If the aforementioned FRED talks it up in attempts to convince others that he's a good cyclist with a lot of experience, that seals the deal - FRED all the way.
You can tell 'em, but they still don't listen.

"could care less" = "couldn't care less"
jealous = envious
poseur = fred
etc

I think youre right about the overlap. I read somehwere that a Fred is the guy riding along the MUP on his new CF racing bike, dogs yapping at his heels. Or the dude dressed in full team kit and walking his bike up a hill, gasping.

"Fred" is a name that bike snobs use to describe anyone they deem as not worthy. Whether it be not worthy of the bike they ride, the kit they wear or the group they ride with. People that use the word are the type of people that have to put other people down in order to feel good about themselves and cope with their jealousy and insecurity. It's a mentality that most people out grew in junior high yet seems prevalent in certain circles in the cycling community. In fact the definition of the term bike snob is any cyclist he uses the term Fred to describe another cyclist.

So if I describe myself as a "Fred" what does that make me?

A person who seeks the approval of bike snobs by using self deprecating humor.

I'd agree with that except for the bike snobs part. BF folks don't even qualify for that.

Being a Fred is "not about the bike".

The LB might have just put them on to help the bikes sell. If you read many road bike's specs, they don't come with pedals either, but almost every LBS I know of puts basic pedals on everything except the super high end.
