Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hot Spot on my Feet

Hey everyone. I have been noticing on rides over 20 miles, I start to get a spot on the outside of my right foot that gets really hot and starts to hurt a little. I think its just the natural way I walk. I put a lot of pressure on the outside of my feet, looking at any of my sneakers, they are all worn so much more on the outside. On the bike I use a cheap set of SPD clip-less with a low end mountain bike shoe. No matter what I will always put more pressure on the outsides of my feet, but do you think getting a road shoe and pedal combo would help any. My thought is a stiffer shoe would disburse the pressure more so than the mtb shoe. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Cheap shoes and SPDs are a recipe for hot spots, but road shoes probably won't cure it if you've got a problem with your feet. If road shoes don't solve it, see a competent fitter. A good fitter will shim your cleats which will improve your pedal stroke and balance your foot pressure.

Yes, I think a good road shoe, properly fitted, will eliminate the hot spot.
But don't go cheap...You'll just waste your money. Think Shimano , Diadora, Specialized....
With shoe and pedal you are talking about $ 250+
