Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Reynolds Carbon Wheel Owners

Anyone use a different brand brake pad besides Reynold's pads? What was your experience?

Have used Swiss Stop and SRAM pads. They worked well.

Assuming your using the cryo blue pads, why use anything else? I've used Swiss stop, Koop stop, stock shimano, and campy. The Reynolds pads are the best of the bunch. Plus, using anything else voids the Reynolds warrenty.

And throw the Reynolds pads away. This has only been asked and answered about a billion times here.

Have used Swiss Stop Flash (Yellow).

I prefer the Reynolds blue pads, particularly in the rain.

Interestingly, that recent thread about wheel failures after severe descents several people talked about carbon wheel failure involving Swisstop Yellow pads. I made mental note of it because no other pads seemed to overheat the rims as badly. Could be coincidence or false correlation, I suppose. Low number of recorded events...

I have a set of DV3K Clinchers and use Swiss stop yellows... no issues here, descents and all. They see 700-1000 mi/month. The Reynolds road racing line of wheels used to come with a set of Swiss-stop yellows too.

I melted some of the glue off my rims (MV32TUL rim) using the blue Reynolds pads going down the Zoncolan. The rims were fine, however. Last year, a buddy I was riding down the Gavia with literally melted some Zipp 303 tubulars (rims warped, glue melted). Does this mean Reynolds rims are superior to Zipps? No.

It could just be luck of the draw, how one brakes, etc.
