Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"If you want to suffer like a pro, on a normal bike go for a ride at 27 mph and see how long it is before you have to stop. Once you drop below 27mph it's over; twenty-six and a half doesn't count. "

https://www.flammerouge.je/content/3_...t/power082.htm

I'm pretty sure the author of that post means 27mph on a flat, solo, no drafting to be like Jens Voigt, who held 27mph for over 5 hours on a mostly solo break.

Good luck to you.

Yes, including "nature breaks", and no rest stops are allowed.

It's not an average speed, it's a minimum speed. You go below, it's all over. So your nature break needs to be done at 27 mph

"I average 20 mph on my [insert: commute, sunday group ride, whatever]."

Just because you look at your computer sometimes when you're at your cruising speed and see 20.3 doesn't mean you're averaging 20 (except here, where it does mean you're averaging 20). I don't know many people who actually do 50 miles in 2.5 hours, (or 20 in an hour for that matter) and they're almost all on racing teams (and can do better than 20mph average any time they want).

I might be reading this website wrong, but the doooshbaggery is strong with this one.
