Wow...76F in Canada (GTA) today. HAD to ride!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wow...76F in Canada (GTA) today. HAD to ride!

Saturday October 8th, 2011...bright sunshine, 76F light winds. 35km from Burlington, along the lakeshore to Stoney Creek Ontario and back. Anyone wasting a day like this, indoors, ought to be arrested. Not my longest ride of the season for sure but the most pleasant solo ride. Last weekend I was in a parka and gloves, today in lycra. Gotta love days like this.

Lots of fellow riders out, all in great moods, like myself.

Cheers,

Brian J.

I was time compressed today but managed to squeeze in a 90 minute cross ride through the trails in the Dundas Conservation area. Pretty beautiful weather indeed.

Yeah, Im in toronto, and got out for an hour and a half today, absolutely beautiful! Ran the lakeshore line from Royal York. Tomorrow is supposed to be even better 27°+. Enjoy it while we can. And waiting patiently for the bike show!

Got out for two and a half hours today with a sweet club ride. 70 degree weather all the way.

it was also pretty warm here in the US. We too enjoyed a ride today. I'm sure it was the case for Mexico as well, but less of a surprise for them

EDIT: the title was just begging for this joke. otherwise I totally sympathize with what you wrote - we really did have unexpectedly good weather here in Seattle, and I did enjoy the ride I was talking about. There was even one random roadie who shouted at me "hope this isn't the year's last day like this" as he was passing me (of course I passed him on the climb that came next)

I'm in Toronto and also managed to get out for a ride. The Lakeshore path was pretty busy so I hit a couple of local 'hills' and then did laps in the Exhibition. I'm up early right now (Sunday) because I'm driving out to the Rouge Valley for a much longer ride. I have to be done early enough to get to my parents' place for an early Thanksgiving dinner

Should be another glorious day tomorrow. Looks like I will be out again. I am, indeed, enjoying it while I can. When is the fall bike show?

Here you go.. http://www.bicycleshowtoronto.com/fallshow.html

If you are still in Burlington, take the GO and get off at Exhibition. That puts you right at the gates.

Another outstanding day. Got a 90 km ride in. Whats with all the CAT6 racers these days?

Just got back from my ride today. I couldn't have asked for better weather. I took a bunch of photos along the way so maybe I'll post a quick ride report later tonight.

45 km in a smaller city west of Kitchener. Seems like we often get a glorious week of sunshine and warmth in October. Anyone remember the UCI Worlds in Hamilton in 2003? Same weather and atmosphere as now. It was amazing (and I lived right inside the loop!).

Thanks for the link. I would, likely, have missed the show. I need some new shoes so this will be a good time to shop.

Also, this is the best time of the year to shop. Most shops that will be at the show on Saturday are offering "show deals" in store. I picked up a trainer yesterday at show price + a little bit extra off. Can't wait for Saturday to see what else I can grab.

For whoever was looking at shoes, La Bicicletta had Sidi Genius 5's for $99. Check the site and if you're a really small or big size you're in luck

Anyone going out tomorrow in the Milton/West Mississauga area? I need to take advantage of this weather and could use some company.

I literally wait and save up all year for this show, and the week before it.
When all the LBS drop the prices for the sale. I picked up my my aluminum/carbon rear triangle, with ultegra, and ksyrium equipe wheels for $1000 during this sale.
La Bicicletta usually has a REALLY good deal every day for the week leading up to the saturday. Last year, they sold the campy record 11 group for $999.
For those in the GTA that dont know about the sale, its massive, there will literally be thousands of people there, as the LBS sell of current year stock, to make room for next years products.

If you go early in the morning there is almost no traffic to be seen. I'm going to be there tomorrow morning. If you see a guy on a BMC say hi . The roads are fairly smooth and I do the laps around the BMO stadium. It's the same course they use for the Canadian national crit championships.

Got to enjoy 2 glorious hours around Brampton/Caledon today. I was surprised not to see anyone else. U2's "Beautiful Day" always seems to be the song I have in my head during days like these.

For those that haven't done laps at the CNE, go and do it. It's a pretty fun little loop and there was no traffic at all.

I saw Crappymonkey a few times (I think?) Were you rolling on Soul 4.0's?

That was me . I don't think I saw you though. Were you wearing a Cervelo jersey?

I'll be heading back there aftet work tonight. I'll post the Strava or Sports-Tracker maps from my rides this weekend later tonight. The ones from the Ex are kind of funny to see because the gps was going wonky and it looks like a kid just went nuts with a crayon

No Cervelo jersey but I was riding the white BMC also with Soul 4.0's.
I was wearing black/red/white Fasttrack Cycles jersey. I believe we were going in opposite directions.
