Early October Riding in Southeastern PA (Lots o' pics!)

Notices
Road Cycling It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. -- Ernest Hemingway

Early October Riding in Southeastern PA (Lots o' pics!)

Here are a few photos I took during my ride on Saturday, 10/8. Most of them are from Montgomery County, PA, along with a few from Berks County. Any of the shots of water were taken at Green Lane Park.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you (plural) enjoyed the pictures.

Brian, how's the autumn foliage this time of year in Canada? Has it peaked yet?

It is just beginning to peak now Rich...maybe the next 5-10 days will be the best. Here is a pic from one of my rides. This is Rattlesnake Point in Milton Ontario at about this exact time last year.

Here are a couple more though they are from earlier in the autumn.

It is quite spectacular up here Rich. You ever want to come up and ride just let me know.

Cheers,

Brian

Great shots; my favorite time of the year!

PA seems to have some really good back roads. Will need to check them out some time.

Thanks fellas,

I live in the Halton Region of Ontario. Halton is between Niagara Falls and Toronto and is known as "The Waterfall Capital Of Ontario." There are over 75 waterfalls in this area and some are quite beautiful, while, admittedly, some are just runoffs from culverts and the like. Nonetheless they all make for quite the cyclist's nirvana.

Here are a couple more:

Webster's Falls:

Looking Over Webster's Falls:

Sherman's Falls:

Tews Falls:

These are all within 20km from my house.

Cheers,

rian J.

So you folks live in a lush land built for the faries, awesome stuff!! I live around rocky hill country, cactus, mesquite, rattlesnakes, white tailed deer, buffalo and roadrunners. But having one roadrunner hop out of the cactus and race you down the road, just for the fun of it makes it all worthwhile Along with Willie Nelson, ***** Tonks and Shiner beer! And Texas women are a class of their own - especially if they like bikes!

Well...besides Niagara Falls, there are many scenic and beautiful spots here. Towns like Elora, Kingston, Stratford, and Goderich just to name a few. Not to mention the natural beauty, only a very small sampling of which you are seeing here. The open country roads are talilor made for cycling...I have only been on a very few of them, but have seen many by car. Ontario is HUGE...taking an entire day to drive across, or up. As I said with Rich (higherground), you would be quite welcome to come out and visit and ride. This place is wonderful....in summer and autumn.

Cheers,

Brian J.

That's about the only speed I know, except for descents!

Nope, just one of the narrow back roads. The one I live on is very narrow and winding in sections. It's kind of funny, because the road crosses over two townships. The section in one township has a very faded painted line down the center, but no edge markings. The other township has freshly painted edge markings, but no center line - so people often drift toward the center. It seems like one township is worried about a head on collision, and the other is worried about you drifting off the road!
