Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Today's ride on Strava

I'm interested to hear what people think about this ride. It only had one climb, about a mile long with the steepest section being a 16% grade. I took it easy on the descent before the climb because I had never been on this route. Turned out there was a locked gate at bottom of the descent before crossing a one lane bridge. Had to walk around it, killing momentum. Wasn't exactly SLAM DANCING up the climb - about 8mph when it got steep. Stuck in stop-and-go traffic around 15.75mi in. Felt pretty good about the ride all together though. Are these estimated power figures on Strava overinflated? Really makes me want to get a garmin [using my phone now] and a power meter. Really this comes down to one question: Will I be competitive if I show up to the Sunday ride?
