Wow, thats 21.5 MPH, that is impressive. And for your goal to do it under 4 would be incredible. Elite athletes do that kind of time... You must be on an awesome training regimen. How long have you been riding?

You do not have to believe me but it happened. this was my 4th century my first was 5:45 my 2nd was 5:40 in 100 degree heat my 3rd was 5:10 and this one was 4:45. I ride 200 to 250 a week. I have done 20 mile rides in under 45 min. Some people could rip there guts out and not stop others would take a sick leave for a hang nail.

..the point being?
With all the things that need doing in the world and the genuine opportunities for self improvement/enlightenment we obsess about how fast we can ride a bicycle over 102 miles? Going nowhere?
..you genuinely believe this is a praiseworthy use of someone's time and energy?
I guess I hang with the .. other people.

That's an awesome job! Shoot, where you live, it's hard finding 100 miles worth of roads.

Great job, especially for a new rider. I've been riding for 30+ years and have only one sub 5 hour century to my credit. Lately I'm doing good to get a sub 6 hour century.

I do not have a bike computer yet saving for a garmin. I have landmarks on the route I know the mile and i see how good I do when I get back. Only needed one bathroom stop 4:45 was the complete ride start to finish. The roads here are as flat as it gets along the gulf coast. I think I can get it below 4 in the next year. I really wish we had some climbs here. But we have no snow to worry about only lots of wind on most days.

Are you racing? You should if this is the result of an unstructured training program. 21mph for 100 miles is impressive even in a draft-legal group situation, and would get you to the front of the pack of many open road races in the amateur division.
And with your rate of improvement, which is nothing short of remarkable, I would expect you to literally be the next Lance Armstrong at your rate of gain, even with the gradually diminishing returns.
You deserve props for riding as much as you do - 200-250mpw is legit. You should post a Strava GPS of that just to shut up all the haters - it does it quick.

+1. Huge difference between 21 and 25. Remember, as speed increases, wind resistance increases exponentially.

you really should find a few little hills to ride. that will not only be more realistic of the centuries you'll find, but increase your leg strength and climbing ability. we have a local century ride here call blood, sweat & gears. 100 miles, 13,000 feet of climbing. it's really quite a difficult ride..... give it a shot next year, but get on the computer, it sells out in about 2 hours after they open the registration, and its limited to 1500 riders.

Go out and ride at an easy pace for about 45-60 minutes. And I mean easy! It'll loosen you up, and the increased blood flow (as compared to sitting on the couch) will help flush out the waste products in your body from yesterday's ride. Then take it easy, and make sure you get a good portion of protein and carbohydrate in your meals today. Char-broiled oysters and beer would work fine. Y'all Northerners eat your hearts out!
