Fluid Trainers, how loud do they get?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fluid Trainers, how loud do they get?

I'm thinking of buying a KK Road Machine, how quiet is it? Can I manage watching TV at normal volume levels while riding?

my trainer itself isn't very loud that I can tell, meaning the damping/resistance system. what I can hear a lot is tire on trainer noise. rollers are even louder.

this is a lot worse when you have some tread on the tire. trekking / touring tires are about the limit. I've done a few sessions on my MTB with full knobs and .. uh, yeah. don't do it.

I have never found noise to be an issue with my KK road machine.

Personally I use an MP3 player as my motivation....I can not focus on TV when I am doing a 5min VO2max interval or even a 20min LT interval for that matter...The TV is on for distraction during the recovery phase...

I only ever turn up the TV a little bit more than usual... the Road Machine isn't that loud. Quieter than a treadmill, I'd say.

I've also found that the tire noise was reduced when I put on a Conti Hometrainer tire rather than regular road tires.

My big fan makes more noise than my KK trainer (if you don't need a big fan, you aren't doing it right). I use headphones from my TV when on the trainer or my wife would probably complain. I would probably have to turn up the volumn by about 50% (similiar to my treadmill).

It's not the trainer, it's the huge floor fan that makes the noise. My bike isn't really quiet either, but that's more an indication of needed maintenance, not a reflection on the trainer. I use a CycleOps fluid trainer.

When I went from a regular road tire to a trainer specific tire the noise went down quite a bit. I use a Continental Ultra Sport Home Trainer Tire.

Just assembled my new KK Road Machine trainer. Haven't used it yet. Kinda dreading having to use it because I prefer outdoor riding but I will be testing it very soon as it's much darker early this time of year. Got rid of my noisy magnetic one for a good fluid trainer...
