That sound would either give me an incentive to pedal or keep me from riding. |
just picked up a front Mavic 501 and building it up - like butta.
Quality and durability - My Dura Ace and Kings are perfect. Angry bee sound good. |
Never been a big fan of King hubs for road.

The classic are way overbuilt for road cycling, hence they are on my training wheels.

from what I see it's the brand they come with straight from China. Not sure if they are good or not, I just know that it's what they come with. I've found the full sets for around 430 shipped

ive got a NOS one of these in 28 hole waiting to be laced to a NOS campagnolo seoul rim. i still have not located a front yet. i do have a NOS older campagnolo front hub that will get used if i cant find one. it appears to be the same quality but is heavier due to the standard axle. (ive got the matching record front skewer to help pull it all together)
the newer black record hubs are no where near as pretty but they are about the smoothest hub ive been around. |
I would go with the shimano Ultegra or 105's. The DA is used experimently and when they don't work well the go away.
As for most of the others they are little more than glorified freewheel hubs. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/free-k7.html |

The White Industries aren't the lightest but you'll have them for the rest of your life. Great hubs for training wheels. I built up a set with A 23 rims that came in just under 1500 grams for 24/28 spoke wheels.

Ive got some Mavik Ksyrium SL now and I love them, tough wheels and they seem to roll very well (sound good too) I'm wondering if the hubs on these are something I should upgrade or just leave em be.

Is that really necessary Bob? |

What spokes and nipples did you use? I built wheels with H2/H3 hubs and A23's and weigh 1610. I did use brass nips and DT Comps because they are just training wheels.
