I Met An Arrogant Bastard This Weekend...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I Met An Arrogant Bastard This Weekend...

So I rolled up on a pair of cyclist this weekend riding together, apparently mutual acquaintances. They weren't in a hurry so it seemed. They were both atop a pair of different model Cervelo's, clue number one, and sporting non-team apparel. After coasting a few minutes behind them on a downhill I decided to push past them at my normal pace on this section of road. A few minutes later, they both power past me. WTF? They didn't out right blow by me so I decided to latch on. The lead rider jets his turbo and leaves his buddy and me in the dust. No problemo. I have seen this numerous times. He will blow up and soon I will be blowing by him. We catch him at the next light. I informed his buddy as we coast to a stop that his rear brake quick release is open. We chatted a few words. He was a nice enough guy. When we get to Speed Racer, he wheels around on us and asked why we didn't latch on? I replied that I was going to wait for him to blow up. His retort was "THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!". I looked at his buddy and pointed at Speedy's jersey and quitely said "At least he is wearing the correct jersey."

Apparently his wife bought it for him. What are the chances he is a regular here on BF?

You seem to take this cycling thing way too seriously.

And next time, just make him blow up if you care so much.

He looked to be a fairly strong rider. No power meter and no beer gut but he was on a nice Cervelo TT bike. He was just full of himself.

Is this entire thread some twisted way of saying that riding a Cervelo gives you extra watts?

So "blow up" in cycling terminology means "get stopped by a traffic signal." So much to learn ...

Highlighted for clarity.
A lot of people have that jersey (I do, and my wife bought it for me too)
