I've heard that Gigantex is doing a wider and/or toroidal 50mm carbon clincher rim. Anyone have any info? Know where a person could find one of these rims? Know how much they'll cost to end consumers?

A quick search yielded https://weightweenies.starbike.com/fo...hp?f=3&t=94091, not much info on it yet.

Gigantex doesn't sell directly to consumers. You will have to buy it from a shop/retailer.
It is already being used by a few brands for their CX wheels.
(Sorry, no spec handy)

I already asked him (couple of weeks ago) and he doesn't have them and told me he wouldn't be getting them until he sold through his current stock of Gigantex rims.

Throw the stick!!!!
I just wish that my gigantex rims didn't pulsate every time I use the front brake.

I saw a few of the new rims at Interbike, a few companies are using them for next year. I actually got a couple sets to build up and test out to see if it was something I would be interested in.
Two things turned me off pretty bad to them. 3 of the 4 rims had a TON of plastic material left over inside the rim. A little is usually ok but I was having trouble getting some of the nipples into the rim because of how much plastic there was.
The rim was only rated to 100Kgf max. That was the dealbreaker for me. If I followed that the NDS spokes would have nowhere near enough tension on them. Plus, at rated for only 100Kgf I'd be worried using them in a cross race or bunny hopping to where the spokes would be under a large amount of tension for a short period of time.

hey coach boyd, thanks for the feedback. what are the dimensions like, width at brake track, does it bulge? I'm looking for a tri/tt front wheel and it seems like nothing is going to beat the Bontrager Aura 5 for price v. performance.

I don't know about the clinchers, but the tubulars slightly bulge (but have a flat braking surface). Seemed to be fairly consistent width at 25mm wide. If you are using it for a front wheel only you should be good. I wouldn't trust it on the back.

Is this the same company that is supplying the current carbon clincher and tubular rims to Boyd, Williams, November, etc?

Yes, I was aware who he was. That's why I was asking in the first place. I wanted to know if he is using the non-toroidal Gigantex rims for his current production. If so that would be strange because he said the quality of the new wider rim wasn't so great.

Nope, I am not using the current Gigantex and will not be using the new ones. . .They have some good qualities, but also some that make me question their expertise, like the big "swooshes" sticking out of their 85mm rim. You just don't want odd shapes sticking out of a rim and disrupting the air flow on what should be an aero wheelset.
The big killer is the extremely low KgF tolerances. A rear wheel should not be limited to 100KgF for the drive side tension.
