Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

4 months away. Glad to be back again.

I have been off the bike for about 4 months now. Problems with my husbands mother have caused me to leave the bikes on the hooks for the last 4 months. She's suffering from late stage Alzheimer's and dementia. This has required a massive amount of work on our part from setting up housing here in Alabama and moving her from her house in Fords NJ. Along with the physical act of the moving and work so many other things have kept me from cycling. Today for the first time since I think about June I was able to take the bike out for a 20 mile ride. I still have it but can tell I have lost some speed and stamina. Could be all the fast food in New Jersey too! IN the morning I have a 35 mile ride planed. going to take it easy and just get back into the groove of it. New Question. I got a smart phone "Android based" over this time. Any one know of a cycling App I just must have? I got the Map my ride one. Any other thoughts?

Any way,,, glad to be back and at-least we don't have snow down here so it' s just a matter of bundling up in the winter to ride..

My ride all dusted off and set for the morning.

Same deal with me here.
Got married and lost my sister to cancer in the same week.
Took my first "real" vacation in 16 months only to
rupture my calf upon returning to work first day.

Stuff happens.

And I agree...nice bike!

Welcome back. I went through a similar meltdown with both of my parents last year. Fortunately you live where it's sunny and warm, so plenty of biking to do in the months ahead.

Another boater that mixes it with cycling! Me too. Unfortunately I don't have a nice covered slip like you do so I keep my bike and the wife's in a shed on the marina's grounds. Even though I've been at the same marina for years, I still get looks walking down the docks in spandex.

I certainly feel for you and your husband. My mother-in-law has Lewy Body Dementia, a cross between Alzheimers, Dementia, and Parkinsons. It isn't easy for anyone involved.

Yeah, I'm glad you're both back. It's not fun when Life gets in the way of what you like to do.

Hey, SB! Are we gonna get to see any new karaoke vids?

If you have Android you can just use Google "My Tracks". It depends on what you want to do. I find MapMyRide better for logging workouts if I do the same ride over and over and over again and want to check progress. I find I like My Tracks better if I am just out exploring and want to chart my path. You can also upload from My Tracks to MapMyRide, so what I usually do is first time on a new route I use My Tracks and then I move it to MapMyRide and if I do that ride again I don't even chart it with the app - I just enter my time and mileage from my cycle computer into a "workout" on MapMyRide.
