Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

laides and gents...i've set a new record

today, me and another guy took off for a 70 mile ride. 70 miles is a longish ride, but definitly doable. we were going to go to sanford, NC, if anyone knows where that is. anyway, 2.5 hours into the ride, we realize that we still arent at sanford. we keep going, and around the 50 mile mark, we hit the city. we roll through, and start on a way home that wasn't the way we started.

I ate a fair amount on this ride. a banana, a powerbar and two poptarts. I would recommend the poptarts, except the packaging kinda sucks. I had a b!tch of a time opening it while riding. Picture a guy in a US postal jersey that looks like a hard core rider (me) swerving all over the road with his gloves in his teeth, working desperatly to get a stupid package open. however, the 480 calories for .79 cents was so worth it. bonking would really have sucked, especially so far out from our starting point, Raleigh. (I go to NC state)

by the time we had gotten back, we had done 111.2 miles, at 18.5 mph. we only pacelined the lfirst and last hour, the first hour becuase there was a lot of traffic and the last becuase we didn't want to ride in the dark. so we cruised at 20-21 for the last hour.

it was fun. my ass hurts. my legs are sore. and I just ate a big meal. its time to study for finals next week. just thought I'd share with you guys.

Nice ride....I remember logging some serious mileage at school before studying and it always helped. Nothing like a little fatigue to keep you sitting still for hours at the library.

Congratulations on the ride and good luck during final exams!

LOL.....Funny how the stress of finals can push you to do incredibly long rides. I think it gets your mind off of studying for a liitle bit.

I agree with a later post....it does help you study.

Congratulations on your ride!

For you older family guys, I too set a record today. 93 minutes to get 5 strands of 100 MINI's (when one goes out, they ALL go out) lit and onto the Christmas tree. And they weren't new. Only cussed 23 times.

Now I got to go make them blink.

Only 23 times? I'm already practicing my profanity in anticipation of erecting a ten foot, one-branch-at-a-time, artificial Christmas tree and stringing lights on it. Every year I tell myself it's the final year for that tree, but...

By the way, Phatman, good job!

Congrats on not only distance, but ave. speed for that long.

....and while studying, take a look into grammer:

me and another guy took off for a 70 mile ride.

That should be "another guy and I took off..."

Your homework-another bike ride today!

Unfortunately as a grad student all my classes are project classes, so I may spend 10 minutes a day reading my notes and 20 hours in the lab. Maybe I should get another degree after this one? I need a good memorization-only degree.

And it is also "look" and not "loook". Tsk tsk, who really cares if someone misspells a word??

Nice ride. The farthest I have ever done is 55 miles.

My sympathies Rad.....last year after spending about 4 hrs doing our tree lights...I'm standing back admiring my handiwork, when 'she who must be obeyed' pointed out that 'they are supposed to blink'.......I think, (excluding the profanities), I said something along the lines of "if you want them to blink, open & close your eyes alot, quickly!"

Damn! I wish I could say I did that on purpose...that I was accentuating the word or something.

NOPE, I'm just a foool.

I was pointing out the humor of a misspelled word in his post about grammar.

PJ
That WAS on purpose.
