Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first metric century +

I met with a couple of BF'ers out at the Silver Comet today for a ride we had been planning for a few weeks. Daniel and I met Allen(55) out at the trail head this morning. We met with him to give him some tips, meet in person, and ride a few miles with him, and then Daniel and I rode on after Allen's wife picked him up further down the trail.
We ended up riding all the way down to Coot's Lake and back. Our intention was to ride out to the Brushy Mountain tunnel, just to see it, and then turn around. When we got there we hadn't seen a store in a while. There were a couple of fellows there who directed us to the store just a few miles further at the lake. The ride out and back were absolutely beautiful, and the weather was perfect.

Ended up at 67 miles in 5:20. I was SO glad to see the truck when I got back. I ate and drank plenty, but the ride was over 20 miles further than I have gone since being back on the bike. I am glad I have been that far now, the first time is always the hardest, or so I have heard. Next goal is to build up to an english century...well, after my immediate plans of a day or two of rest anyway. This has been my first 400 mile month (October), my longest weekly total last week @ 107, and I already have 97 for the week and it's Tuesday....

Oh and Daniel is forever going to be the "blue bomber". I will let him explain that one, I am sure he will sound off about it. lol

Well Done.

A blue bomber in my lexicon has to do with chemically induced diarrhea. Not a good thing miles from a nice comfortable toilet seat.
