Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rubber

Bought a set of Mavic Eqiup wheels for a new carbon framed build and now ready to buy a set of tires. I searched for a comprehensive review but can't seem to find a general discussion. Anyway since I'm lazy decided to start a thread. Looking for a light, durable, little rolling resistance but decent in the rain, good value tire (aren't we all). I'm not a racer or a long distance tourer but mostly want a tire that does all things fairly well. If there is a previous discussion, please point me to it.

Yup...although you may not agree on the "good value" part as retail is often $65 - $75 on these. Look for online deals from Ribble or ProBikeKit...many seem to be able to get the price down to $45 - $55 including shipping.

Serfas Seca tires or Continental Ultrasport for less than $30. Great training tires and very durable, specially for everyday riding.

If you ask what the best cheap tire is, you get more interesting responses.

Finally got a pair of GP4000s' and I'm really liking them, they're tougher than Pro 3 Races but still corner extremely well and roll very easily. Not as tough as a gatorskin or a krylion but I'm willing to take the durability trade off for improved ride quality.

Isn't it amazing that a bicycle tire can cost as much as a car tire?

This morning's e-mail from Bonktown listed GP4000s as one of todays sales. It might be worth leaving your browser open.

Not sure what car tires you are buying but I haven't paid less than $125 a tire in a really long time. And that's smart shopping. If I bought the equivalent of a GP4000S for my Evo I would be paying well over $200 each.

Anyway-- supposedly the premium bicycle tires are handmade. I don't know what this means and would be curious to see the assembly process.
