How long have you had your carbon bike for?
Hi,
I had always been against carbon for commuting, then thought "hey, I have a carbon fork and seat post - why have those and be against having a carbon frame?" So I was wondering how long you guys have had your carbon bikes and in what conditions you ride them?
I'm a year round commuter, but have a fixed gear for winter. I'm trying to choose between carbon and titatnium. If I went with titanium then I'd keep it for ages, but with carbon I'd probably change again after a number of years. I always get upgrade-itis so with either material I'd probably upgrade at some point anyway!
Thanks
Daven

carbon bike 1: just under 2 years
carbon bike 2: just over 2 months
Mostly ride in nice weather, but have been caught in a couple rain showers. No snow, use my cross bike or mtb in winter outdoors. I generally clean the carbon bikes bi-weekly

11 years, all conditions. Snow and ice are infrequent, though it's been in those on some tours in the mountains. It's been up and down plenty of dirt roads and fire roads. Pretty much everything has been replaced at least once except frame and fork, handlebars, seatpost, and front derailleur.

I've had my Ti bike since 2004, a carbon bike since Feb 2007, a Roubaix since June 2009, and the newest Tarmac since Thursday. I'm listing the Ti and Roubaix on ebay this week. Can't ride them all!

Three seasons. I have ridden in the rain, but don't like to ride in snow or ice. Though I've been out a few times with temps around 10 F.

10 months, tcr advanced. ride 6-7 days a week (commute to work, and training/fitness rides) pretty much regardless of weather. its the only bike i have so it does eveything. and does it well! i also don't worry about it as much as i did with my steel bikes.

My wife rode a 1990 carbon three tube Trek 2300 for 12 years and has ridden a 2002 Trek 5200 for the last 9. She rides about 3,000 miles per year.
I, on the other hand, broke a 2004 Specialized Roubaix Pro last Summer. It was warrantied.

4 years. It's like brand new, even having ridden it a lot during for 3 of those years.
I actually preferred my cheap alu bike for commuting, as I could lock it outside - I'd never do that with a Cervelo carbon bike!
