How do you wear glasses over skull cap?
 

This might have been answered before but I'd appreciate a quick reply.

So, how am I supposed to wear cycling glasses combined with windproof skull cap and my helmet?

The arms of glasses can't really sit in the notch between the skull and ear because the windstopper skull cap really smooths out the place when tightened by the helmet straps. As a result, they sit in a small bump which is higher than usual, making the glasses look down. What do you do for that matter? I love my new skull cap.

a true poser wears the glasses over the cap AND the straps, relying only on the friction and traction of the coating/rubber sleeves on the shades to maintain positioning... else how can you read the brand on the shades? are they Oakley, or are they Tifosi? We need to know these things!!!....

All kidding aside, I wear my eye protection under my head warmer and helmet straps.

you might be joking, but that's the actual way to do it.
you put the glass arms over the cap, but weave (under then over) them on the helmet straps.

They're not Oakley or Tifosi, just Shimano Equinox.

I thought about wearing them under the skull cap but that kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it? I mean, doing it this way, the arms raise the cap and air can get in. What's your experience?

i wear mine under the cap. i'd feel pretty stupid if i lost a pair of oakleys trying to look pro by wearing them outside everything, so i put them where they seem most secure. i know what you mean about them tilting down a little...but at least for mine, it's not that much. just have to push them back into place a little more often.

If the grips are good, they're not going to come off unless you get knocked off the bike.

alternatively, if you're a seamstress, you can cut a small hole for the arms to poke through.

My experience is that the cap still insulates even with the arms under the skull cap. Not sure about the whole over and under methodology, I would likely get confused mid ride and do it wrong! Under everything is simple enough for me to do every time, and I use the friction to keep them against my head and in place.

Hmmm. I wear prescription glass with fairly flat temples that hook a bit over the ear. These go over the straps and under the beanie. The only reason they go under the straps is I find there's a bit less wind noise that way...and of course it's de rigueur.

I think I've tried it every way possible, and I've settled in on over the beanie/over the straps - by far the most comfortable and practical IMO. I agree that I'd have to fall off the bike to lose the glasses.

I have to note that over the straps and under the cap is impossible for me. The straps are behind the cap line.

You want them under the straps, secured to your face.

If you're wearing solid near impact impervious glasses like Oakleys, they are part of your protection equipment. They have been the buffer slamming and sliding across pavement a couple of times protecting my face.

The lens have gotten marred by such abuse, but MFrame lens replacements are cheap/easy enough.

I wear my glasses under my do rags, under helmet strap also. Have yet to freeze to death, knock on wood.

I wear sunglasses under everything, including helmet straps. I like to have my sunglasses stay on after I take off my helmet without having to touch them.

mee too. glasses on head, then beanie and helmet. haven't frozen yet.

My current shades work best over and over. My old Tifosi's had a small enough temple piece that they could go under my headband.

I wear Oakley Rx Radar Path and some older Bolle glasses with Transition lenses...

Both are worn outside of the straps...Never have I had an issue with the glasses moving around...

If I crash, the glasses are going to be ejected away from my face...Plus it makes it so much easier to remove them and put them back on when on the bike moving...

I think the rules are a bit mistaken on this one. My assumption is that you're supposed to put the arms on over the straps so you can remove/put on the glasses without removing your helmet. However, in Sunny SoCal I often take off my helmet and want my sunglasses to remain on - so you will see me breaking this rule on a near daily basis around here. It's just a pain to take off your glasses, then try to put them somewhere with out dropping them while you remove your helmet with two hands, put your helmet down without dropping it, then put your sunglasses back on. If I have the straps underneath, I can still pull off the glasses, flip them upside down and stick them in my helmet vents while riding.

Exactly. Glasses go over the skullcap.

The question about over/under helmet straps I think is purely for posers. Do whichever works for you.

For those of us who actually need our glasses to see, this is a silly question. We don't take our glasses off every time we remove our helmet because the glasses are functional and not a fashion statement. Glasses go under the helmet straps and under whatever you are wearing to keep your head/ears warm. Wearing them on the outside of everything is a good way of watching and expensive set of glasses get pulverized by a truck.

I agree with you, but would point out that once they've fallen off, you're not going to actually see anything. At least I wouldn't.

After a couple years of therapy, I've finally accepted I'm not going pro. As a result of this breakthrough, my RX glasses/sunglasses go under everything. Otherwise, they feel funny and I can't see as well. Function > form.
