So it's not just the 41 that can't set up SRAM FDs

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ouch.

Side note - I see that they'll be using the Garmin power metering pedals, too...

This clearly puts all disputes and controversy finally to rest.

You have to admit that this is pretty strong....

Cervélo, the bike manufacturer, is purchasing Shimano groups for the team after repeated requests for Shimano from team members.

One would expect that since Garmin is a title sponsor.

True, but it's a positive indication that the pedals might be ready for production sometime soon.

Also thought this was interesting:

"Home training bikes for team members are being built with cable-pull Dura-Ace but the team plans to race on the electric-shift Di2 on both road and time trial bikes."

Is that a comment on the cost of outfitting multiple bikes with Di2, or the reliability/ maintenance issues of Di2 for the home bike not maintained by a Team Mechanic everyday?

Yes, this is what I was alluding to - many, some very vocal, think that any pedal-based power meters are vaporware.

This also explains why Slipstream Sports has a bunch of SRAM Red components up for auction on eBay.

A pro team was running a "ready to market" Campy electronic group in 2005. I agree with pcad. It's vapor until it ships to retailers. I say that as part of the most notoriously vaporous industry there is.

I just switched out my fd on my rain bike to Suntour ARX, and it shifts fine now.

Shimano Di2/Campy EPS are groups that are more reliable than anything else out there today. Adjust once, never touch it again. That's how electronics work.

It's likely the cost factor.

Really? I didn't know that... Actually, I think that we all knew that, which is why the statement of optimism was hedged with words like "might." We all know that this is no guarantee that it'll be available to us plebes, but it's a necessary step in the right direction for that to happen.

Sram must love that article. I wonder if they will affect their advertising with VeloNews in the future?

The odds of them coming to market after undergoing real-world trials with a pro team is better than the odds of them coming to market without. If you want to be a "the bag o' hammers is half empty," curmudgeon, that's fine, but it's still a sign of progress.

That depends upon the results of the trials, doesn't it? "Vapor" doesn't mean it won't come out, it just mean that for all practical purposes it doesn't exist and may never exist.

For the record, I think Garmin is going to deliver on this one, but I'm not saving my money for it either.
