So, how long will I have to wait, what will it cost, and does it come in red?

Too springy.

for bikes, there's nothing better than tubes.

Didn't some small manufacturer develop a frame a few years ago that used some kind of open carbon mesh instead of closed tubes? As I recall the frame actually cracked during a demo at one show, which is unfortunate because it looked cool.

I remember that frame, but that's the first I've heard of it cracking.

Are you talking about Delta7? http://www.delta7bikes.com

they look pretty cool.

teterider 11-21-11 03:35 PM

I've seen many of those Delta 7 bikes being raced, and also not heard of problems (meaning a high rate of problems as all bikes have some occurrences)

Isn't this the second thread on the micro-lattice in the past couple days?

i'm sure they will be able to form it into tubes (or whatever shape is needed for the application)

Yes those Delta frames are the ones I was thinking of. As for the problems, I Googled around a bit and found this blog entry that references the incident I was thinking of. Presumably it all turned out okay since it sounds like they're still making them.

Someone's selling their frame for 5Gs on the 'bay

I'm wondering on how will it perform during a race. Wouldn't the frame cause catch more air inside the tubes creating more wind resistance? does the weight of the frame compensate for it?

I don't know. Maybe I'm just spitting out some scientific non-sense here. It sure does look very unique.

Actually, there is nothing extraordinary about the metal. Chuck Norris touched the dandelion and made it that strong through sheer will, and challenged anyone to blow the seeds off. After a couple of days, and scores of winded challengers, one of them snapped this as a joke on the weight weenies.

Designing materials based on fractal thinking is the future......

This is the first time ive seen it
