Thinking of going electric Ultegra Di2 on a Evo
I have a evo frame coming soon and can either put on my old 105 group with tecko <sp? brakes and a FSA K-light carbon crank or go with a Ultegra Di2 kit and use my crank and buy ultegra brakes to keep it clean.
I got the frame at a smoking price after another frame was warrantied so thats the reason Im not buying a complete bike.
ant thoughts or other options I should concider ??

Why is Ultegra Di2 the only option besides your old 105? Of the two, I'd choose Ultegra Di2, but honestly I think Ultegra Di2 looks way too chunky. One or two generations of electronic gruppos from now and that thing will really look/perform like a dinosaur. If it's an option, I'd look into mechanical Dura-Ace 7900, as I believe it's roughly the same price as Ultegra Di2.

There's only one reasonable answer to your question.

I think if I go mech. I would go Ultegra as it's only 200 grams heavier and that's with the crank which I wouldn't use. I need to buy a seat post ( I am going to go with FSA) and already have FSA carbon crank and carbon handle bars , those parts should match up (good looking anyway).
The main reason I'm looking for new parts vs. 105 is the evo is just to hot a setup to have tecko brakes, 105 group with exposed cable shifters

If you're going mechanical, Sora might be best for you.

it does seem odd to put tektro brakes and a 105 drivetrain on a new Cannondale Evo frame. what's even more odd, though, is that if you have the budget for Ui2 I don't understand why you didn't just buy a complete bike with it, rather than a bare frame.
it's pretty hard to beat the total price of new bikes, assuming that you would ride the stock bike and not change anything.

I find the exact opposite of what you said to be true. You can find framesets, component groups, and wheels at anywhere from 30-50% off MSRP on eBay. Good luck trying to get that kind of discount on a complete bike from your LBS. You can build a high end bike yourself for MUCH less money than the LBS is charging. Lower-end bikes, however, are harder to save money on by building yourself. For example, some of the Rival bikes that Competitive Cyclist puts on sale from time to time would be hard to beat the price on if you were to build it yourself. Higher end bikes have more margin, which is why you can build them yourself for much less.

The EVO frameset is so light that it cries out to be a weight weenie build. Thus I'd go with Red.

If you read what he said, you would have noticed that he got the frame for a significant discount through a warranty process.

2. You cannot get current model new framesets for most brands on ebay or discounted period. NOS and used are very possible. Components and wheels, I agree.

I'm betting a Nuovo Record RD won't shift a 10 speed cassette too well.

Honestly, I think they had it right the first time:

Look at that thing. You don't even have to worry about chain stretch.

cannondale let me upgrade . It was either a new synapse frame for free or a evo for half price new, I went for the evo and now I have all these synapse parts that I think I'm going to save for a backup bike some day. Hope that answers your ??

why is putting on an old set of 105 even an option? thats like putting stock honda wheels on a ferrari. Id go mechanical DA, like mentioned earlier, in 2-3 years Di2 will be old tech and will be a thing in the past.

I will NOT go with dura-ace mech. For me ultegra and dura-ace is a weight thing and the $$ for dura-ace over ultegra just doesn't add up to me. The Ui2 has got me excited and after talking to my LBS I really like it BUT they said it might not work with my crank, they will find out and get back to me... Till then I'm going to do more research to make a better/more informed decision

If money was the biggest issue, I know people that roll on DA everything and rock an Ultegra cassette so that they don't have to worry about a $200 DA cassette.
