Bimmer Bike...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bimmer Bike...

I have to believe that it's already been discussed here and I'm not a Bimmer man,
but damn this is hot; Just over 16 pounds (7.4kg)/MSRP $3579...

You know it's not from a "real" bike company when they have it photographed with platform pedals in the easiest gear combo.

As little and insignificant as that sounds, I think that along might legitimately stop me from buying it. Not BECAUSE it was photographed like that, but because it shows a bit of a disconnect between their bike and "real" bikes, and it makes me wonder where else that might have shown through. I'm sure it's a good enough bike, but no.

I like that it's understated. Assuming it's more of an intrigue product then a serious delve into the cycling world I would have expected them to give trek and specialized a run for their money in the logo department.

I like the frame's style. I trust that BMW wouldn't just hand out a contract to someone to put together a cheap frame and slap their name on it. I'd imagine that they'd make sure it's a decent frame. It looks kind of raw in a way.

Stop comparing everything to your Scattante. They make everything look bad.

I think BMW could've done more design-wise. I like the simplicity but I was expecting more (no, not TIME-esque decals where the logo occupies the whole TT, DT and SS, but just a little bit more branding).

now this is sexy
I personally think Pin bikes are ugly as hell. Why? It's because they OD on decals. It's too wild for my taste.

Check out BMW's MTB bikes. They probably are more of what you expected.

For a road bike, maybe it's hard to beat a straightforward classic design.

How many race cars have swoopy frames? The bodies might be aero, but even they are
just a series of straight lines. It's pretty interesting to see a car co. get into bikes.

I used to drool over Pinarellos like I used to drool over Orbeas.
But then eventually, the "fashion" grows old and passes.
"Style" (ala' Parlee, Crumpton, Ti Bikes, etc...) is forever.

I still liked the same bikes I liked as a kid (straight tubes mostly).

I don't think that the price is bad and it looks ok. That said I rather get a bike from a real bike company. PS I own a BMW car.

gotta love it, 90mph or 150k or so in first, guess they geared it that tall to minimize "incidents". Topped out at 187 or something, 300k.
cool vid

I work at a BMW dealership and can say its actually a nice bike. The owner is actually about to buy one himself (same guy who owns Lynskey's, Seven's, Ellsworths). I believe he is throwing Super Record on it. I cant wait, because the Ultegra stuff all goes to me!

I could maybe deal with the graphics. But that's about the only frame shape that I'd choose a specialized over, and I hate the look of specialized.

I don't want to have sex with a bike, anyway.

LOL....I was about to put my foot in my mouth by posting what kind of a guy would buy a BMW bicycle, but with the exception like the owner of a dealer - vis a vis, don't bite the hand that feeds you, or don't poop where you eat. Gotta lead by example, and I think the owner is doing the right thing. A friend of mine owns a large GM dealership, and all his employees have to drive a GM vehicle of some kind if they want to work for him. He has his weekend toys - a Gallardo, F430, and a couple other older machinery, but he drives a GM-whatever-happens-to-be-a-demo vehicle to work.
